My intention on writing this book is to give information and experiences about latex allergies. By no means, do I intend to offend anyone or company who produce any products that contain latex. While reading this book on the subject latex allergies do not panic. There has been problems with latex gloves as well as other latex products; a lot of them have been changed to benefit everyone.
Since 1996, I have suffered with latex allergies. I developed Asthma and began experiencing periods of deep depressions. Due to the severe reactions that I was experiencing my last employment date was November 4, 1996. I developed rash, Asthma and began experiencing periods of deep depression. I started research 1997, because I feel as though this was more that Psychosomatic. When my job stops, paying me I was so appalled, this was not my fault the allergy that I have developed while working. I said to myself I would write a story and send it to Medical Journal. I was so angry and hurt I felt so deceived. This little voice inside of me said that if you do things out of angry nothing good will come of it. I wanted to tell everything! So now, I know it was the Heavenly Father speaking to me. He led me to write my story, gather up information on latex allergies, and put together as a book. I said to him do you know whom you are talking to? I have never written a book before and I do not even know where to start. I have been writing poetry since I was 17 years old. I had felt that deep inside my heart that the poetry that I was led to write, it was just a beginning of a greater purpose. So I humbled myself and said a prayer, "help me Father in Heaven show me what you want me do." I will be obedient and carry out your will Father. I realized that this is my Destiny and I was born to write. Therefore, I continued to do my research on latex allergy. I did not know how to do research because, I never researched any subjects before, I was only hoping that it was correct. I continued to gather up information from the Medical Journals and Internet sites for my book. I did not know how long the research would take me, to complete the book. I felt inside of me that my book was coming to an end. I realized that I learned a lot about latex allergies, and I was not alone in my suffering. I know that latex allergy affects people all over the world. I saw that this problem dealing with latex allergy opened up the Medical field eyes. The doctors, scientist, and legislators had to do something to resolve some problems that latex has caused. You will see in this book how hard everyone worked together to figure out how latex allergies started. Latex gloves, is designed to protect everyone from diseases, infections, etc. At the same, it was creating an allergy. First of all the doctors and nurses were the first victims because, the medical professions were required to wear gloves, and they were made from latex. They did not think they were creating a problem. Until, the doctors, nurses and other medical staff started having problems. Some of the Medical staff were in jeopardy and interrupted their careers as result of this allergy. Latex gloves were sensitizing some of the Doctors, Nurses and some did have anaphylactic reactions. The Dental offices were experiencing some of the same reactions to latex gloves and products that contained latex. The problems were occurring, because the medical professions use numerous gloves a day. The powder in the gloves are cornstarch this helped the doctors and nurses putting glove on and off easier. What happen was the powder bond with the allergens in the gloves, so when the gloves taken off the particles became airborne. So when latex became airborne the Medical Staff then inhaled the particles. That is why some people developed Asthma, dermatitis, and some became sensitized to latex. When these problems occurred, there were limited amounts of information available and a few Doctors understood this allergy. Many people were baffled and even today they still trying to understand the whole Latex Allergy. The Food and Drug Administration received many reports about Latex Glove Allergies. The FDA had to investigate these reports plus reports of deaths that occurred as result of latex exposure. It seems as though the more a person would wear latex gloves, that individual sometimes became sensitized. The Doctors noticed that children having numerous surgeries like spinal bifida, they were going into Anaphylactic Shock while in surgery. Even some adults having numerous surgeries were having anaphylactic reactions and some doctors thought they were having reactions from the medications. There are tests for latex allergies available in the Allergist Office. People that are allergic to latex, there are some fruits that have some of the same allergens that latex have. If you have, any reactions contact your doctor’s office. Even a simple, blowing up a latex balloon a child can have a reaction.
