Caught in the Mo(u)rning Rain

The Final Remembrance Rose petals falling With as many tears Where you walked This many years There were times When you smiled There were times When you cried But we loved you All the same Today is a special day No more pain, no more suffering No more machines, no more tubes Just angels singing your name Welcoming you into their open arms With a heavenly love We could never bestow Upon you my love Though today may be your last with us, It will be your first in a new home Where the sun always shines Where the rain never comes Where you’re free to play Where you’ll now safely stay And forever be happy. (wherever you are now, I hope you have found peace) #the inspiration: I wrote this after I had just received news of the passing of a child with whom my friend and I had spent time a couple of months ago during our storytelling session. The family was really eager for us to come back again this December but the child has sadly left us. Several children have left us in the past 2 months. Whenever a child passes on, I can’t imagine what the family has to endure. I also remember a lovely social worker’s words “Every time a child dies, a light goes out in the world”. I wrote this poem in honour of these children and it is dedicated to their families as well.
