LISA … From Spain
A tale of war, fascism --- and love among the children of immigrants

Nestled on a hillside with Paris visible off in the distance sits the magnificent Union-Elyseés Hotel. It is an imposing structure, rich in history, that beautifully dominates the surrounding landscape, and back in the year 1919 it was a particularly festive place.

During the Peace Conference that followed the First World War, it played host to several of the delegations charged with forging a lasting peace, and with redrawing the maps of Europe and the Middle East. There was a feeling of optimism among the people, but no one was more hopeful than a young immigrant from the losing side who worked at the old Elyseés for little more than food and shelter while anxiously awaiting the outcome.

The story begins in America at the outbreak in Europe of the Second World War, and it continues with a visit to the Union- Elyseés by the great-grandson of the hopeful young immigrant some sixty-five years later.
