WHAT KIND OF SKITS SHOULD I USE?
When using puppet skits, there are four things to consider; they should be Christ centered, Bible based, family oriented and the amount of entertainment should be limited. If you stray from this, then you’ll be using secular skits that won’t be fit for the Lord’s church.
Christ centered means that He should be the focal point of the message in the skit and not focused on the things of this world.
The skit should be Bible based by using scripture(s.) Scriptures should be considered first when deciding which skit to use. I believe that the Holy Spirit uses scriptures to speak to our hearts. (You should always allow the Holy Spirit to work in your ministry.) We all need to Heed Unto God’s Scriptures. (H.U.G.S.)
The skit should be family oriented, that is to say, it should be rated “G” for “Godly.” Don’t use skits that use “second-degree” curse words such as, “darn,” “shucks,” “heck,” and “shoot.”
The final thing to be considered is the use of entertainment. People need to understand the difference between being somewhat silly and being foolish. “Somewhat silly” means to be a little silly but not ridiculously silly and foolishness means to act against the principles of God’s Word.
When we make faces at a tiny baby, we are being silly. When we talk silly to children, we are just trying to get a laugh, and anything beyond that might be considered to be childish and immature.
Foolishness should never be tolerated in any ministry. It can make fun of God and His Word and it certainly sets a bad example for children!

About the Book
This illustrated 48 page book is designed for those who want to start a puppet ministry or for those who want to enhance their existing ministry. It is full of ideas that have been tested for many years and is designed for the trainer or puppeteer to use.
It contains ideas on how to build your own puppet stage, how to start a ministry, history of puppetry, how to train and evaluate potential puppeteers, how to brush up on their skills. Included are three professionally written skits about repentance and two different song sheets that compliment perfectly with the plays. One song sheet is from the popular hymnal song "Leave It There" and the other song is written by the author titled "Backslider Blues."
About the Author
At the age of six, Terry received his first puppet and puppet stage. As he was growing up, he enjoyed watching television shows, such as: Winchel Mahoney; Kukla, Fran and Ollie; Howdy Doody; Captain Kangaroo; and watching Edgar Bergan perform. He noticed the different types of puppets they used and studied how they used facial expressions and body languages.
Terry received Christ as his Savior when he was 13, living in Upland, California. The church he was in, gave him literature that he read and he committed his life to serving Him.
Years later, (over twenty years ago,) when Terry was attending Tennessee Temple University, he met some people who worked with puppets as a ministry. They showed him how to make puppets and how to perform with them. They went around to different churches in the Chattanooga area and had an enjoyable time. Later, he also learned what it’s like to perform on television, as his puppet group did a guest appearance on a show called Stuff.
