He often threatened me, if I made an attempt to leave, that he would
shoot me and kill me. Where would that
leave my son? Would he be left to be raised by a mad man, who had no control
over the demons inside of him? Would I stay and risk death for me or my
beautiful baby?
Would I kill him in his sleep, risking a lifetime in prison and
sentencing my son to a life of foster homes? These were the questions that
troubled me, even in my sleep.
I made the decision to live, and save the life of my precious son. I
decided that if he would shoot me, it would have to be from the back, because
come Hell or high water, I was leaving. The plan of escape was all sorted out
in my mind, and ready to be executed. It would be all or nothing, because my
child meant more to me than my own life.
The morning appeared normal, as he put on his police uniform to go out
to protect and serve. To protect innocent civilians from violence, and to serve
those in trouble. How could he live such a hypocritical life? My plan...to
gather anything and everything of value, sell it to the nearest pond shop, and
buy myself a bus ticket back to my hometown...back to the only real love I had
ever known...back to something meaningful...back to my mother!
I made the sale, shaking the entire time. I called a cab for a ride to
the bus station, looking in front and behind me the entire time. Arriving at
the bus station, I feared that he would already be there. I feared that he had
somehow invaded my dreams, and knew my plan of escape.
Once on the bus, I feared that he would meet me at the first rest stop
to kill me, or bring me back to the life of hell that we shared. After the
first rest stop, I feared that he would meet me at the next rest stop, or in my
hometown...fear... it's the only emotion I had come to know so well.

About the Book
This book contains the survival story of a young
woman who grew up poor, believing that the color of her skin would determine
her destiny. She grew up with a loving mother, and an abusive father. How does
one survive a life involving teenaged pregnancy, and attempted suicide? How
does one live to tell the story of her escape from the man she knew as her
husband, who beat her for his pleasure? Can a woman really be a woman after the
threat of breast cancer, and double breast biopsies? How does a young woman bounce back from a
life of promiscuity, drugs, alcohol, and ultimately, the taking of innocent
life? Who could survive conceiving a child after being raped? Could anyone have
courage enough to walk the path of righteousness after a diagnosis of cancer for
her five year old son? What kind of person could live this life, walk this
road, and testify free of condemnation? I lived it, I walked it, and I breathed
this life everyday. How did I turn from victim to survivor? Nothing but the
blood of Jesus!
About the Author
The author of this book comes
from a poverty stricken family. A family who did not have
such simple luxuries as a car, and at times a telephone. She grew up
being told that being “black” and being female, were
two strikes against her. She turned to a life of drugs and promiscuity,
that ultimately resulted in the taking of innocent life. She abused her
body, and that invited others to abuse her. From an abusive husband, to a
violent rape, she experienced it all. She is no longer a victim, but a
survivor. She tells her life story with the hope of drawing others closer to
Christ. By the grace of God, she is no longer a victim.
