Back to black Back to back, we do our dance Eye to eye, we take the chance Toe to toe, forth and back Then we slip back to black Left and right and side to side Take my hand, please don’t hide Under my shoulder and over my back Then I slip you back to black Head to head, so headstrong We dance all night to our favourite song Just when we think we got it all back That’s when we fall back to black Hand in hand, we trip and fall Our true colours lay bare to all The whispers we hear when we turn our back They know we’re right there... back to black To cover it up, we tell our lies We walk around, full body disguise I thought for a second you had my back Until I saw that I’m back to black These colours are blinding, my eyes are sore Please leave my heart at the front door I had it once before you took it back That was before we were back to black It’s the stories we so often tell And the books we try so hard to sell It’s the hard copies and the paperback The ones entitled Back to Black

About the Book
Love and Other Stuff is a poetry collection that looks at the subject of love and things such as sadness, inspiration and thought provoking material – to mention a few – as seen through the eyes of the writer. Unconditional love is probably love in its purest form yet love means so many different things to different people. Some are good and some not so. In Love and Other Stuff the writer explores both sides of the coin to look at the good (as love should be) and also the bad but she also throws in a bit of humor, a bit of silliness and allows the reader into some of her most private thoughts.
About the Author
Venessa has always had a love for poetry and has been writing since primary school. She has a Certificate in Creative Writing and a National Diploma in Marketing. She is a lover of nature, a true people’s person and travelling is another passion she enjoys. She lives with her mother and sister in Grabouw, a small town in the Western Cape province of South Africa where she was born and raised. She is currently employed as a Communications Practitioner working for the largest electricity supply company in South Africa.
