Simply put, The Family Bank is a how-to guide on how to create a bank in your home, in which you are the CEO and your children are your customers. This book is the guide to develop and implement this easy to use financial system that teaches your children everything they need to know about how adults control, manage, earn, spend, invest and ultimately lose their money. This system is called The Family Bank and Financial System. The Family Bank is only part of the Family Financial System, so I’ll refer to The Family Bank when I’m discussing money management and I’ll refer to the Family Financial System for more extended topics, such as resume writing and applying for Family Bank Employment... oh yes, we are much more than just a bank. The Family Bank, like a hammer, is a tool. It’s a vital tool in your tool belt that will reduce the amount of time and energy it takes to build your children the foundation of one of the most important lessons they need to learn, which is how to control and manage their money. You might be skeptical because, let’s face it, you probably don’t love hammers. After all, they look like, feel like and generally represent work, but have you ever tried to build a house without one? It’s possible, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Teaching your children how to build a strong financial future without using The Family Bank might also be possible, but again, why work that hard without tools when you no longer have to? Understanding The Family Bank is simple and implementing it takes minimal effort, but utilizing it enthusiastically will reap unbelievable dividends for both you and your children; so in your hands you have a powerful tool. The Family Bank gives you the framework to teach your children everything they need to know, which happens to be everything you already know about how to make money, control money and how to make their money work for them, instead of against them. Is The Family Bank really necessary? The financial system in our evolving world is complex; but, for better or for worse, it’s not difficult to use. In fact, swiping a credit card is so easy that most people get into credit debt without understanding the long term effects of their credit card’s compounding interest. Our society gives us the tools to turn the poorest hard worker into a millionaire, but it does so by setting the majority of us up for failure. The handfuls that become financially independent do so because most of us give them all our money… actually we give them a lot more than all our money! What do the successful have that the rest of don’t? A Harvard education? Actually, no; what they have is an understanding of how to make our financial system work for them. School and a good education are imperative to success in life, no one denies that, but inevitably that is not what makes people financially responsible or financially successful. We’ve all heard stories of people who started out poor and ended up rich; sometimes they had an education and sometimes they became wealthy without a college degree. We’ve also heard stories of famous people who have made millions of dollars, but still ended up broke in the end. Education is important, but unless your kids specifically study Finance in college, it’s not going to help them manage and retain their money. A college education will definitely increase your child’s earning potential. However, like the mistakes that will be made by so many of his peers, it won’t teach him how to retain and grow that money. Understanding and utilizing the modern financial system at an early age is the cornerstone to being financially successful as an adult. Basically, your kids need to understand early in life how to make a little pile of money and how to make it grow over time, instead of making a little hole and making it grow over time. It’s starting to sound like common sense, right? So obviously schools must spend a great deal of time teaching our kids about credit cards, checking accounts, interest, writing a resume, and applying for jobs… except that they don’t! It seems that the modern public education system has completely missed the most important lesson to financial success as an adult, which is how to function in the modern financial world.

Children are not born with any particular knowledge or skills, therefore everything they need to know about how to survive in the real world they have to either learn at school or from you, their parents. Sadly, children don’t learn vital financial lessons in school; therefore it’s up to you to teach them not just how to scrape by in life, but how to thrive!

About the Author
Sergio Dinaro graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology, with a minor in Biological Chemistry. Like so many of his fellow Americans, Sergio enlisted in the U.S. Army (as a Counterintelligence Agent) after September 11th, 2001, where he served his country dutifully in both Afghanistan and Iraq. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Sergio again found himself in the same boat as many Americans; an unemployed, financially unstable, college educated veteran, who was blazing through his life’s savings.
Sergio took advantage of this “respite” from the work force to reflect on his life and his financial situation. He came to the realization that he was proud to have been able to serve his country during a time a great need; however, warm, fuzzy feelings were not paying the bills or putting food on the table. He was not at a place in his life where he could afford to be unemployed for any length of time. In short, Sergio found himself financially unstable.
Sergio set out to determine why he, raised in a typical American family, whose only desire as a child was to achieve the American dream, was struggling to make ends meet. Is it possible to grow up with very little, finance college, serve your country, enter the work force during a recession AND be able to pay your bills, buy a house and land the job you’ve always wanted? The answer he discovered was, “Yes!” Sergio looked at his 6 year old daughter and realized that he had unwittingly made too many financial mistakes early in his life, and that if he was going to teach his daughter how to be financially stable as she grows up, then he had to begin her education immediately… and The Family Bank was born.
