About the Book

THIS IS A TRUE STORY ABOUT A GREAT DANE NAMED CLEATUS

Cleatus was/born on December 12, 2004. He is the only surviving member of twelve brothers and sisters. Cleatus did have a sister for a short time. Her name was Bella. She was snow white. Bella could not hear or see, but was a delight to have around. Cleatus always looked after his sister and he also looked up to his mother, Abby.

For five years Cleatus was with our family. He was a ball of sunshine to have around, even though he had some problems at birth which affected him the rest of his life. Cleatus weighed 180 pounds and had no idea he was so big! His brain did not develop as fast as his body did. This made him quite the character. He was always a lot of fun to be around.

Cleatus had his own bedroom and television which he enjoyed watching with his mother. He loved his momma, Abby very much.

About the Author

I, Matthew Martin, I am writing this book in memory of a Great Dane named Cleatus, my good buddy! Raising a Great Dane is like having your best buddy around all the time. They are nothing but big couch potatoes; they’re like football buddies that never leave the couch. If you wanted too sit on the couch, you would have to call your reservations in, an hour before you wanted to sit down.

After raising three girl Great Danes, it was time for me too raise my first boy Great Dane, his name was Cleatus. A girl Great Dane named Abbiegaile, a breed from Anheuser-Busch. Abby had a great grandpa named Jake that came out of Anheuser-Busch St. Louis MO, in the early 80’s. After five years, Abby became a big part of our family, we decided to breed Abby and we would keep a baby boy out of the litter. Our family was so excited, during them twelve weeks we almost threw a baby-shower for Abby.

Abby had a baby boy two weeks before Christmas, we named him Cleatus. My experience raising Cleatus was a delight, all my Great Danes have been a delight to have around, but Cleatus especially, he was a character all his own. If you ever had a bad day, Cleatus would brighten that day up. If you ever felt alone, having Cleatus would feel that void up and having a 180 lb dog sit on you ‘cause you’re in his spot on the couch, there was no time for loneliness in this world. You literally have a 180 Ib toddler on your hands for a couple of years; a lot of laughs are created during this time.

I never raised two Great Danes before, until Abby had a son, the first thing I noticed was, how much smaller, the rooms in my house became. The best experience I had in raising these two wonderful dogs was watching the mother relationship Abby, had for her son, Cleatus. The phrase, monkey see monkey do, pretty much explains it all, Cleatus had know idea what his role was, in life, he just knew he was, Abby’s’ baby and that’s all he wanted too be. I do believe Cleatus thought his mom was very pretty and he respected her for that, Mom wore the pants in this house and Cleatus was still trying to earn his pants. Cleatus wasn’t the healthiest guy on the block; at times he would need special care, from others. His mom Abby was always right there to give it to him, after five years she never stopped giving that motherly love, moms give to there babies. Writing this book about Cleatus will help warm our hearts and enjoy the memories he has given our family each and everyday. We would love to bring Cleatus into your family’s home with the love and laughter he brought to our family. Cleatus came up missing February 23, 2008. Our family prays for his safe return home, and most of all his happiness and health, are being taken care of at this present time. Great Danes are nothing but,

GENTLE GIANTS

One day Suzie was in spelling bee contest, she was asked to spell the name CLEATUS, she asked for a definition of CLEATUS, the judge replied to Suzie, his head is shaped like a bucket, a little goofy, very well-mannered, has a heart bigger then Texas. A great chic magnet, if you’re ever on the beach by yourself.
