About the Book
Steve the stickleback follows the journey of a threespined stickleback from his normal environment to a shallow stream where he finds a spot to build his nest and watch over his babies. This fascinating little fish can be found from northern Europe to northern Asia as well as north America. Seldom noticed in their normal saltwater habitat they are more likely to be noticed when they come into freshwater streams to mate. There are populations in various lakes that spend their entire lives in fresh water. The fish who inspired this story was caught and later released in a small stream in East Providence, Rhode Island.
About the Author
Well known in southern New England as the owner of Animal Experiences a traveling show featuring reptiles, amphibians and small animals, Dave Marchetti is a life long resident of Rhode Island. Dave has been an avid keeper and breeder of fish for over forty years. One of his favorite fish over the years has been the three-spined stickleback a small native fish that breeds in a small stream less than a mile from where he lives. Dave has routinely caught and watched these fascinating fish breed in aquariums over the years. Steve the Stickleback's adventure stems from Dave's experiences and imagination.
