Why is it that you hurt me?
Disappointments all the time
Constantly injuring my heart
Acting as if the fault is mine
When all along it was yours
Empty promises continuously sent
Knowing all the time
You never said what you
Really meant
Just speaking words that
You thought were so
Pleasing to my ear
But when I spoke of true
Realities
You never ever chose to hear
In a relationship it’s
50-50 no matter what
Others might say
If you think for a moment
Looking back on all the ways
You handled things
In a manner trying to project an
Image that’s strong
A lot of times your judgments
Were foolish, often negative
Yes, you were wrong
Wrong to take me for granted
Thinking I’ll always be
Right there
Hurt me again, see what happens
Suffer the consequences
If you dare
Too many chances
I always gave
Sometimes feeling
Trapped like a slave
I should’ve never allowed
Myself to become a victim
True indeed- too busy
Trying to satisfy others
I didn’t receive the things
I need.

About the Book
It's been said that if God blesses you with a gift and you don't use it, it's a sin. And knowledge is useless if you don't share it. These are reasons Sherice Dionna chose to quit procrastinating and share her book of poetry with the world. Love Heals, Lust Hurts are Sherice's own words brought about from different experiences in her life everyone will relate to. She utilizes this book as a tool conveying a message that you can overcome heartache, pain, love yourself and persevere. The first poem is a divine inspirational one about the Lord, representing what many believe, which is how he should be first in your life. Knowledge and wisdom gained from Sherice's own encounters allows readers to do the same just by turning a page. She shows the strong impact that certain life relationships have and how they can alter one's emotional state. These are Sherice's personal thoughts and feelings expressed that anyone who has ever been close to another individual will definitely identify with. Love Heals, Lust Hurts is a topic most know all too well. This book emphasizes inner strength being brought to the surface. Sherice finally decided to give others an opportunity to view situations she has gone through. About the Author
Sherice Dionna Burney was born on March 21, 1978. Being raised in Detroit, Michigan, she is a positive product of the Detroit Public School system. Sherice attended Courville Elementary School and Nolan Middle School. She was named as one of Who's Who Among America's High School Students in the 1994-1995 book edition. Sherice was a part of the Center for International Studies and Commerce program at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School and graduated June of 1996. In pursuit of higher education, Sherice graduated, with honors, from Davenport University August of 2003, receiving her first (and most definitely not her last) Associate of Business Administration degree, majoring in Management. It has been her life long dream to have her book of poetry published so that she may share her experiences and inspire others. Along with her passion for writing poetry, she also enjoys water aerobics, swimming, crocheting, music, and a love for martial arts.
