introduction As the heavy sledgehammer pounded into my head and face I felt my bones breaking. I tried to see the heartless person who could be doing this to me, but the acid being splashed in my eyes made it impossible! As the burning chemicals ran down my throat, I gagged as I tried to find air. Beaten, bruised, and burning, my body began to feel numb! The pain was starting to fade into the darkness. Thoughts of my children came to mind. I feared this was the end. As lifeless as I was, I knew I had to get help. With blood running down my face and my eyes swelled shut, I somehow made it to the neighbor’s house. There had to have been a higher power that lifted me up out of the bloody mess I was in! why was I still alive?
