About the Book

     Dariyo, meaning “Ocean”, portrays a symbolic presentation of different colors of life like love, longing, celebration, humor, satire, sorrow, devotion, nature, and life itself in poetic language. Life is like an ocean and its tides are like different colors. Sometimes love splashes you, sometimes mischief. You can see the mischief coming out of love and then love out of mischief. God has given us one life. Enjoy as many colors of life as you want to. Dariyo is all about these colors.
    Literature is also like an ocean. The person who understands that does not just splash at the shore but takes a Boat or a Launch or a Steamer to navigate it like an adventurous reader that each one of you is.  That is why I say, friends, this Book is about the ocean that is our life.
    On the cover page, you will see a young man with his child on the sea shore. The young man is trying to explain the aforementioned idea to the child but he is too young to understand. What he understands is how to play with the splashing waves. There is nothing wrong with that. He can see the ocean, its waves, the water, a bright sky and the setting Sun. Later in his life he will feel curious and many questions will arise. Then emotions and then poems will emerge.
    This Book has poems in three languages: Gujarati, Hindi, and English. 30 poems are in Hindi, 6 in English and rest 82 in Gujarati, making a total of 118.
    The Book is dedicated to our Shah & Nanavati families and in fond memories of our beloved mother Nirmalaben Shah.

About the Author

    Dariyo (meaning Ocean) is the maiden venture of the author Mitesh Shah into the poetry world. He was inspired by various poets of the Gujarati and Hindi languages right from his school days. For those who know about it, he has studied Hindi literature up to “Kovid”.
    The birth of poems took place here in USA in Nov.’06 when his 25th wedding anniversary was approaching. That occasion really stimulated him and he started enjoying writing poems. Different emotions poured out in the form of words, which gave birth to different types of poems. Dariyo is written over a period of over one and half years. There are 118 poems in this volume, and 23 more are already written for the next one!
    As you read him, you will find that he is young at heart and full of feelings. He has one son and one daughter. His wife Hina’s name appears in various poems. His father, fondly called Babu, is still going strong at the age of 85. His mother, however, died at the age of 80 due to cancer. Mitesh has written 7 poems (included in this Book) on her who had actually encouraged him to publish this Book. All the beautiful designs are by his lovely daughter Jinita.
    Mitesh has also written three suspense thriller short stories. One heart touching short story is included in the forward to the Book. He feels proud to present this Book to all of you. He feels it is like an Ocean, with waves at the shore and depth in the middle. You would never actually finish reading the Book, as I promise you, you will want to keep reading it over and over again.
