Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Jonah are prime examples of ones called of God for a specific purpose. But they were not special. Missionaries are not special, just people called to a purpose. All believers are called to a purpose. The above noted Bible characters simply have it recorded for us in detail. If we were not all called to a purpose, God would not be God, since Scripture tells us He is no respecter of persons (Acts 10: 34). Isaiah had a vision and the Lord showed him his uncleanness. As soon as he was cleansed by a coal off the altar, the Lord wanted to know who would go for Him and Isaiah immediately answered, “Send me” (Isaiah 6: 8). Jonah was told to go to Nineveh and turned to go the opposite direction. When God got his attention in the belly of the fish (which Jonah described as the belly of hell), God gave him the same direction as the first time (Jonah 1: 2; 3: 2). Jeremiah was a young man whom God chose to go to the nations. He will be our example for some interesting facts about our destiny.
It is evident from Jeremiah 1: 4 that we must hear God’s voice to know our destiny or assignment. As we hear God’s voice, we will hear things we never dreamed of. God reveals the future to us. However, He does not reveal it all at once, for if He did, we would likely run from it. It is critical to focus on what God says. While some people will tell us we are stupid or will not amount to anything, God never speaks to us that way. He knows what He has put inside of us and He wants to develop it and bring it forth. He wants to birth something through you, but it will take your cooperation.
God connects with us with words. If you do not know God’s voice, just drink and eat His Word and soon you will know it, and His voice will become clear. If there is still a question, or you think it is just you that you are hearing, remember that He speaks to your spirit and your spirit is repeating or echoing what He says. The voice you hear will sound like you, but you can know it is God speaking to you because He will always speak in agreement with the Word. Check it out if there is doubt as to who is speaking. If it matches the Word, it is God.
You are set apart to God for a purpose. God places His call upon your life. You are a reward to someone. You are the answer to their problem. That is because God placed Himself in you and He can answer every problem, but He will use you. As we lean upon Him, with all our personality and character (our whole being), He will flow through us to be the answer to their need. God has prepared you for that very purpose, to be the answer to someone else’s problem. Because you were prepared for them, they will celebrate the fact that you complete their life.
Since God set you apart for a work or destiny, it is not your choice but your discovery as to what He wants. Some people have such a problem finding out what it is they are to do in life, but really it is simple. If we will simply seek His will for our lives, He will certainly show us what it is. That is the reason we should begin to pray, “God, I have to be in the center of your will.” That is releasing any selfish ways and asking Him to show us where it is He wants us. He will, for He wants you in His perfect will more than you do.
A very interesting Scripture in the Message Bible fits our point perfectly:
“The person who lives in right relationship with God does so by embracing what God arranges for him” (Galatians 3: 12).
God puts in front of us situations and opportunities to see our reaction. So, if you want to be in the center of His will, look at what is in front of you and put your hands to it. If it is not what God wants, He will redirect you quickly. The thing that is not what He wants will not satisfy or gratify you. It will be (or become) an irritation rather than a fulfillment. The destiny of God, the assignment He has for you will be a fulfillment in your life. It will be the most satisfying thing you ever did. It will be better than a great steak and baked potato with all the trimmings.
The only success you can be is what God has designed you to be (Jeremiah 1: 5). You are not an oops, nor a mistake. You were scheduled into God’s world for this time, to do what He has assigned for you. Your very thought pr
