The shield.
A shield is held in front, against the arrows,
burden of guilt.
The sun scolds you, what an apparition,
as you walk forward.
Yet it marches behind you,
always behind,
deep in your foundation, shield or not,
always behind you,
your guilt.
Friendship.
The shallow water pools, unfettered the surface,
before the pebble.
The breeze comes, rests there, on top,
of the watery palace.
Decay meditates, siiting on the branch
of the hemlock.
Decay meditates, of the newborn,
fulfillement of the void.
Water, the breeze, the decay,
friends in time.

About the Book

About the Author
Emmanuel Aligizakis was born in the island of Crete in 1947.Educated in Greece (Panteios Supreme School of Athens-Ba in Political Sciences).He served in the armed forces for two years, and emigrated to Vancouver 1973.Worked in several different jobs over the years. He attended University of Simon Fraser for a year taking English Literature in a non-degree program.He has written various pieces of literature, such as two novels, three poetic anthologies, various articles and short stories in Greek, as well as in English.
After working as an iron worker, as a train laborer,as a taxi driver, as a stock broker, he retired in 1998. Now he lives in White Rock where he spends his time writing, gardening, and travelling.
