About the Book

The year is 1551. King Henry VIII of England has died, passing the crown to his son King Henry IX. The only son of Queen Anne Boleyn, he is determined to be a compassionate ruler, setting himself apart from his volatile father. He lifts restrictions his father imposed on religious practices and speech, and starts on a pathway that would earn the admiration of his people. Then, after facing a series of difficult tragedies, the King breaks down, becoming a ruthless, manic, bloodthirsty dictator. Betrayal, death, war and a massacre by a deranged former priest darken Henry's reign. Nevertheless, hope remains that he might change his legacy, because of advancements in exploration, the sciences, education, and even the establishment of a colony in the New World. Does Henry eventually recover and finally become the King he wishes to be? Discover the answer in this recounting of the remarkable--fictitious--reign of King Henry IX of England.

About the Author

Raven A. Nuckols currently resides in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. An avid Tudor fan, she has travelled to various historical sites throughout the United Kingdom including the U.K. National Archives at Kew, Hever Castle in Kent, and Hampton Court in Surrey to conduct meticulous background research for her characters. After thoroughly researching Anne Boleyn’s story, she began to question how English history may have been altered had such a politically ambitious wife stayed at Henry VIII's side throughout his tumultuous reign. This book--the sequel to “Had the Queen Lived: An Alternative History of Anne Boleyn”--proposes a fictional history for the reign of a son Anne miscarried in 1536. Historical fiction writing remains Ms. Nuckols' main passion and she is dedicated to ensuring that actual historical events described in her stories are captured with accuracy and balance, while providing an alternate perspective. She holds a B.S. in Economics from Strayer University and actively engages in philanthropy and humanitarian causes.
