Joan (Pre Aftermath) Excerpts. I had never seen her before Behaving in such a manner She seemed nervous, puzzled, unsure Of something I'd yet to discover- I wrapped my arms around her chest Then asked her if she was okay "I'm fine." she said. "Just fine, it's just Most storms don't look this way"- I looked out the window And then saw what was wrong Before us there were clouds That just did not belong - Thick and black, very angry looking clouds Like nothing I'd ever seen That seemed to push and shove one another To make themselves more mean - The storm had very quickly taken form Its wrath soon to unfold It blocked out the light and replaced the warm With an eerie, damp cold - It was as if this beast were alive Both destructive and enormous And as it let down its winding tails I knew soon it would be on us - Still I held her even closer And told her it would be fine Though in my mind was thinking Along a different line - The wind outside was now howling I knew the worst was near Then came the fearsome growling And all at once, it's here! - Joan (Poast Aftermath) Excerpts. Isn't it strange How in one moment all you hold dear can be here And in another moment it can be gone How so suddenly it can be replaced by a grief and a fear That tells you time and again you can't go on - But now I will no longer Listen to despair My heart has sensed a presence I know someone is there - "I heard Your voice beneath the rubble The night the storm came on In spite the pain, the hurt and trouble I heard "You Must Go On" - O God, I am so sorry I know I've let You down In the midst of my life I got bound by all I'd found - A wife, luxury, and riches I thought I had it all But compared to Your grace O God Those things are really small -

About the Author
Calvin W. Allison has been a writer for around 18 years. He began when he was 16. The poem "Joan" is probably his greatest poetic achievment thus far. Though the poem is fictional, it portrays a very vivid tale of love, tragedy, and redemption. Calvin is a Christian author. But before he became a Christian he had written 10 books of poetry. Over 1,000 poems. Most of them were very dark and negative. After he became a Christian he, with the exception of "Joan," destroyed all of them. "Joan" is the only one of those works he didn't destroy. He believes that the Lord wanted him to keep it. To turn the poem from its tale of destruction and hoplessness into a tale of redemption and triumph. Thus, the aftermath. "Joan" was written at two very different times in Calvin's life. The first half during his time of heartbreak and reckless living. The aftermath after his conversion.
