“Forgiveness don’t get no better than this”

The minute we walked in the club, I could feel the thumping, exhilarating vibrations under my feet. I knew then that it was going to be a good night. The sounds of R. Kelly’s “Step in the Name of Love” was playing. DJ Mike had a reputation for being the best DJ around town. After a few drinks, I was starting to feel mellow all over again, and the music was beginning to take me to a higher level. I totally forgot about Barry’s sorry ass. I was ready to dance.

An older gentleman with salt and pepper hair walked up to our candlelit table and asked me to dance. By then I was already feeling a buzz from the liquor. He took my hand and led me to the dance floor. We danced song after song having a good time. When I finally returned to our table, Lex had already arrived looking like someone who just stepped out of Vogue magazine. She wore a tight, black, mini dress with a v-cut down the back, with black sheer stockings and three-inch black “come fuck me” pumps. Even though she cut her long, black, curly hair, she still looked great. She favors Halle Barry, but a bit more curvaceous. Whenever she entered a room, all eyes were always on her. Everyone always complimented how stunning she looked.

“Well, it’s about time your jive-turkey ass made it, Lex.”

“I told you that I had to take care of some business. Don’t bite my head off.”

When the cocktail waitress came over to our table, Lex ordered a double shot of Hypnotic on the rocks. She sat at the table smoking on a Virginia Slim with a paranoid expression. We didn’t know if we should say anything to her, so we chose not to. After the waitress brought her drink to the table, she started to loosen up and talk.

“I apologize for being such a bitch. I had a bad day at work and I’m stressed out. So, Latrice, I see Barry let you out tonight.”

“What the hell do you mean ‘let me out?’ Barry’s not my father or my husband.”

“Yeah, right. Where is he tonight?”

“I don’t want to talk about Barry tonight.”

“Fine.” Lex stood up. “Watch my drink. I have to go to the ladies room.”

Lex was gone for a while, and I decided to go a little later to put on makeup because all that dancing had me perspiring. When I walked into the ladies room, Lex was sitting on the black, leather sofa in the powder room talking on her cell phone. When I came out of the stall, Lex had left. I put on some lipstick and eyeliner and rolled out.

When I got back to the table, Lex was popping her fingers, sipping her drink, and smiling. I think her job is driving her crazy. I’m going to have to talk to her to see what’s really going on.

Lex went to the booth to talk to DJ Mike and Gerri was dancing, so I sat at the table admiring all the fine, well-dressed men. Lex came back and said she had to go to her car because she left her cigarette case. I know I had a few drinks, but I swear Lex pulled out her platinum cigarette case a little while ago. I didn’t know what the hell she was up to, but she was not going to piss me off tonight. When Gerri returned, I began to tease her about the brotha she was dancing with.

“Girl, you know that guy likes you?”

“Baby-girl, I’m happy with who I have. I’m just out with my girls having a nice time, now what’s wrong with that? Where did Lex go?”

“She ran out to her car to get her cigarette case.”

Lex returned about twenty minutes later.

“Damn, Lex. What took you so long?”

“Nothing. I was just running my mouth outside with the bouncer. Come go to the smoking room with me.”

I enjoyed going in there, I just didn’t like all the smoke in my hair. Gerri stayed behind because she really despised the smell of cigar smoke. Lex had two cherry cigars, and we sat on the plush, red velvet sofa puffing on them. The room was full of VIP’s puffing on flavored cigars. There was so much smoke in the room that it was foggy.

DJ Mike sat down between us. Lex leaned over and passionately kissed him on the lips like she was in heat. I started to feel a bit uncomfortable. I had never seen Lex act this way in public. She had too much class to act that way, and I was really surprised at her. Then she put her hands on his bulging manhood. When he put his arm around me, I jumped up and went to the bar.

DJ Mike was a fine looking man, but he was a player. Most of the women who came to Club Moka liked him. I knew Lex couldn’t be serious about this guy. I walked back over to the sofa.

“Lex, I’m going back out front to the table with Gerri.”

DJ Mike looked at me and stuck out his tongue licking his big juicy lips. Lex fell out laughing. I thought to myself, This girl has lost her mind. I left and headed back into the club. Gerri was sitting at the table with some strange looking guy. She was giving me the eye that she was ready to go, so I turned back to tell Lex that we were getting ready to leave. Suddenly, Youngblood walked over and gave me a hug.

“Will you dance with me?”

“No, thank you,” I politely declined because at that point I was ready to leave.

“I understand. Please, give me a call, okay? I’d like to take you out.”

“Fine,” I responded, but I knew it would be a cold day in hell before I called his young ass.

By then Lex returned, and we told her that we were about to leave.
