Jesus, meek, and humble of heart,
make my heart like your heart.
(From the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart)
My hope is to help people discern the truth from the lies that are so prevalent in our society today. We have been led to believe many things that sound good, but have been proven to be unreliable. From the time of the French Revolution, through the Enlightenment, to the present time, there has been a trend to devalue tradition and the wisdom of the past. Many have begun to accept the idea that the beliefs of the past could be done away with, and a new and better world can be achieved.
It is always wise to look at what has gone on in the past before we venture into the future. It is foolish to think that we know everything. If we do not look to God, and to our forefathers before us, we are left to make our decisions on insufficient grounds. We can tell ourselves anything we want to hear. There is a succession of steps that have brought us to this modern worldview, and it is very interesting to note that those who had the greatest influence on our modern-day thinking were either atheists or men and women who did not trust God enough, and decided that they were more knowledgeable and able to improve world conditions without His help. Among some of these educators and philosophers are John Dewey, Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx, and Friedrich Nietzsche. They had no interest in saving souls, in eternal life, or in serving God. However, their atheistic influence has changed the world into one with a new worldview of morals.
One fact that has helped me to understand what has happened over the past few years is that most of those who have had such great influence in changing the worldview from a God-centered world to a man-centered world are all men and women who have little or no use for God. They were, and are, people who either think they do not need God or who think God has done a very poor job of ruling the universe. They are also people who do not accept the concept of sin and the consequences that are the result of sin.
There are several questions that can be asked: (1) Why were people happier before the 1960s than they are today? (2) Why were people more civil to each other before the 1960s than they are today? and (3) Why was honesty a more important quality before the 1960s than it is today? Those who want to blame America for every evil and those who hate the Christian worldview will tell us of slavery, discrimination, poverty, sexual and physical abuse, exploitation of some human beings by other human beings, and all the other ills that were part of the past. Slavery in America has been eliminated because of Christianity. We are working very hard to eliminate discrimination. Exploitation of human beings is not allowed in America. Poverty and abuse are still with us, even though much money has been spent to cure the problem of poverty.
