Poetry from a young man with Asperger's Syndrome
About the Author
Hello my name is John Aster Habig (but I go by John Aster professionally) I was born on December 24, 1983 in Oxford, Ohio. At about age 2 or 3 while living in Germantown, Ohio my family converted from being non-practicing Catholics to Jehovah’s Witnesses and at 3 or 4 my family moved to Carlisle, Ohio. Very little has changed since then which is nice because I like consistency. As a child I was diagnosed with social anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder and at age 19 I was informed that I have Asperger’s Syndrome (which was an immediate relief to me actually because I knew there had to be something else that me different). I went to Carlisle schools from August of 1990 to June of 2003, where I was better friends with the teachers than the students and in 2003 I went to Sinclair Community College where I did well academically and socially until the end of the second year and I still didn’t know what to do with my life. Since August 16, 1998 I’ve been writing poetry and since 2005 I’ve been virtually a shut in facing a crossroads with my writing keeping me company along with my stereo and television (mostly playing the Beatles or Monty Python). This volume is a small collection of that work that has built up for over 10 years and amounted to over 900 poems. Aside from poetry I work on tv pilots, sketches and movie outlines (but only once finished a script). I would like to reiterate my thanks to all the people who gave me such positive reinforcement of my writing talents and encouraged my pursuits in them.
