I put my pencil to the paper and let these words overflow/ Cascading down the page like Niagara Falls – one thought to the next/ Sometimes reaching outside of myself and losing all context/ I reload my No.2 in order to find release/ To be set free from (self-inflicted?) bondage/ Urging my captive thoughts to follow the drinking gourd and Harriet/ up before I am too afraid to move/ foreword to this underground rail road trip to divine revelation/ I attempt to write the wrongs of my mind/ Trying to account for why I feel like I can’t cry/ But must hold it all inside and hide From what’s real/ I’ve got these steel bars around my heart/ Don’t really know how or where to start/ But I’ll keep writing hoping That my words will somehow set me free/ For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks…

About the Author
As a lover of words, Ashley June Moore has been involved in public speaking since the age of nine, and she started writing and performing spoken word poetry as a freshman in high school. Her work has been published in local magazines, and she has been a featured artist at local, regional, and national venues. Ashley was born in St. Louis, MO but recently moved to Seattle, WA where she lives with her husband, Thomas. She has served on staff with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA for the past seven years, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity through Fuller Theological Seminary with a concentration in Youth, Family and Culture.
