AuthorHouse Offers a Free Web Site to Authors Who Start the Publishing Process in February

AuthorHouse is starting off the new year by extending a special offer for authors who want to publish a book in 2008. All authors who enter into any AuthorHouse publishing agreement in February will receive a free author Web site.

“We’re making this offer available to motivate authors to start 2008 off on the right foot and get to work on their book,” said Keith Ogorek, AuthorHouse marketing director. “Authors whose manuscripts are at all stages of completion can take advantage of this promotion.”

The free author Web site includes tools for providing real-time news and events about the featured book, content-control features like active blog posting, and a portal where readers can purchase and review the book. Additionally, AuthorHouse hosts the site for free.

“A Web site dedicated to your book is an invaluable tool for promoting and marketing your book, and is a key part of our comprehensive approach to helping our authors publish, promote, and sell,” said Ogorek.

In addition, AuthorHouse is providing authors who choose the Standard Paperback Publishing option twenty free paperback copies of their completed book. Special offers are also available to authors choosing to self-publish children’s books and poetry books.

“Authors who take advantage of these offers give themselves valuable tools for promoting their books to the marketplace,” Ogorek said.

AuthorHouse Helps Make Book Publishing Dreams a Reality for Deserving Organizations

Three groups receive publishing grant through Authors Across America

AuthorHouse announced it will help three deserving organizations this year. The Denver School Museum, SKIP, Inc., and the Rainbow Repertory Theatre will each realize their dream of publishing a book through a standard paperback publishing package grant through AuthorHouse’s Authors Across America initiative.

Authors Across America, designed to inspire literacy and encourage authors to get published, is in its inaugural year of granting publishing services to educational and service-based organizations.

"Through this grant, we are giving a diverse group of writers who wouldn't normally have access to book-publishing resources the opportunity to have their voices heard," said Terry Dwyer, AuthorHouse's vice president of sales. "We're pleased to help these organizations achieve their goals through book publishing."

The Denver Schoolhouse Museum of Grant City, Mo., was built in 1878 and is the only two-story schoolhouse remaining in Missouri. Carol L. Parman spent the last four years collecting 250 pages of poems, written locally over the last 150 years. The grant will allow the museum to publish a book of these poems that will be sold to fund the museum's renovation.

The Ohio-based Rainbow Repertory Theater, an energetic, diverse group of artists and volunteers who participate in traveling theater, will use the grant to assist in publishing a history of African Americans in their hometown of Canton, Ohio.

SKIP, Inc., based in Montgomery, Ala., provides supportive services to children and families of incarcerated parents, and increases public awareness of the challenges these children face. The grant will assist founder and executive director Gloria Jean Canty in publishing her dissertation to help others start similar organizations.

AuthorHouse Announces New Service to Help Self-Publishing Authors Promote and Sell Their Books

Service helps authors gain recognition among librarians and buyers

AuthorHouse announced today it is offering Book Buyers Preview to help self-published authors gain more visibility in the media and market.

Book Buyers Preview can help increase visibility of self-published authors and their books. The “sneak-peak” characteristic of the service allows book buyers, librarians and researchers across the globe to read a selection from the first chapter of the book. Essentially, when book buyers access their ordering database, the preview appears with the book’s ordering information to enhance the purchasing experience.

The preview is available in trade databases including the Ingram Book Group and Baker and Taylor, the largest book distributor in the world. The Book Buyers Preview will also post the preview on the Barnes and Noble Web site www.bn.com as well as www.buy.com.

Once libraries choose to catalog a particular book, the preview will be available to library patrons who are searching for reviews. The book preview will also be on EBSCO, the leading service provider of archived print materials and related services for libraries and research organizations.

“Development of this service demonstrates our on-going commitment to help authors publish, promote and sell their books and reach their publishing goals,” said Terry Dwyer, vice president of sales for AuthorHouse. “The Book Buyers Preview is a service that will enhance visibility and help our authors gain consumer recognition.”

AuthorHouse and iUniverse join forces to change the publishing landscape

Under Author Solutions, Inc., the world’s two largest providers of publishing services will expand offerings to give authors more choice and more control.

AuthorHouse and iUniverse have agreed to terms that will add iUniverse to the Author Solutions, Inc. family of brands. The transaction was announced jointly Sept. 6 by Bryan Smith, president and CEO of Author Solutions and AuthorHouse, and Susan Driscoll, president and CEO of iUniverse.  Author Solutions, Inc., a Bertram Capital-owned holding company, was acquired by Bertram in January 2007.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“As technology advances, more people can achieve their dream of publishing a book,” said Jeff Drazan, managing director of Bertram Capital.  “That means whether an author needs an online DIY publishing tool, a traditional publishing arrangement or comprehensive author services to self publish, Author Solutions can help.” Drazan went on to say, “We are excited about the future of publishing and are committed to providing the investment needed to make Author Solutions, Inc. the preeminent worldwide provider of author and publishing services.”

“There’s no question that publishing is increasingly becoming more author-centric,” said Susan Driscoll, president and CEO of iUniverse.   “We have always been focused on providing authors with the publishing expertise required for professional results.   Now, through Author Solutions, we have a terrific opportunity to provide all authors—both self-published and traditionally published—with the broadest range of services to help them achieve their individual goals for success.”

“At AuthorHouse, we have built our brand by making service to the author our first priority,” said Bryan Smith, president and CEO of Author Solutions and AuthorHouse, “and iUniverse has done a great job leveraging their traditional publishing experience to make authors successful. By bringing the two biggest forces in self-publishing together, we will draw on the unique strengths of both brands and offer an even better suite of publishing services for authors.”

Smith added, “Offices will remain in all six locations around the world, and we will continue to aggressively pursue additional growth opportunities globally.”
