Why It Took Us 25 years to Learn French

A normal day of shopping. At the far end of the street, we entered a tiny typically French shop. I encouraged Shirlee to approach the owner and ask. She attempted to communicate via gestures, pointing to her old watch. He responded by looking at her quizzically and then once he understood what she wanted; he rushed back to the display case behind the cash register. He quickly brought out a small wooden box. As he opened the box I got a brief glimpse of a watch. Could that be a picture of a dog on the face? And what is underneath the dog house? Were those French words? I thought for a moment that I was having an hallucination. With squinted eyes I tried to focus carefully before I got too excited. Yes, this watch did in fact have French words on it. I motioned to Shirlee to approach the counter. "That dog is so cute?" And look there are French words too. "Le Bonheur c'est Simple." "It seems perfect, she squealed excitedly. "But what does this mean in English?" His son explained to us the saying meant "A Penis is Simple" Shirlee looked shocked. "Did I hear what I think I heard. Tell him I teach kindergarten how could I possibly wear a watch that Penis on it?
