About the Book

“MALIBU MAN” is the autobiography of the legendary first young virtuoso of the viola…Alan de Veritch. Making his first of many solo appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 13, by the age seventeen he had already collaborated in chamber music performances with such artists as: Jascha Heifetz, Gregor Piatigorsky, Josef Gingold, Pinchas Zukerman, and Itzhak Perlman to name but a few. By age 32, Alan de Veritch had exchanged his life as an internationally known concert and recording artist for what was to become that of an extremely successful businessman, community leader, guest speaker, author and world-renowned musical pedagogue. This autobiography clearly describes the background and many aspects of his amazingly unique existence from age 5 to present times while it comfortably guides its readers on a most enjoyable and informative journey through the highly eventful life of this truly extraordinary individual.

About the Author

Thought of by many as a true “Renaissance Man” Alan de Veritch unquestionably established himself as the very first young virtuoso of the viola while still a teenager. By the time he made the decision to retire from his life as an active international concert artist, at the ripe old age of 32, his career had included appearances in many of the world’s most notable concert halls, positions as Principal Violist of both the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic Orchestras and solo performances with many leading orchestras including the Washington National Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ultimately, Mr. de Veritch went on to become a highly respected businessman, lecturer, guest speaker, community leader, author, commercially rated pilot and flight instructor, recording artist (having performed on over 500 motion picture soundtrack recordings) and internationally known musical pedagogue, producing some of today’s most widely recognized performing violists. The Primrose International Viola Archive on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah proudly calls itself home to a large collection of Mr. de Veritch’s personal memorabilia, recordings, photographs, correspondence, music, programs, publications and historic documents pertaining to his life, heritage and career.
