About the Book

Why do our lives sometime go in unexpected and even unpleasant directions? The apostle Paul in Romans 5:1-5 provides a major insight into dealing with this life question when he reflects upon the life sequence of suffering, endurance, character, hope, hope not disappointing us, and joy. This book discusses all this and is also a wonderful testimony to the role of the Christian faith in helping anyone to recover from tough life events.

About the Author

The author of this book is a United Methodist minister with advanced degrees from Duke University, Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Since 1971, he has served several local churches as pastor in the western part of North Carolina, and he moved recently into retirement. He also has the distinction of having experienced, survived from, and miraculously healed from a terrible bicycle accident late in 1998 which caused a lengthy coma and a traumatic brain injury. This book focuses upon Romans 5:1-5, and particularly upon the biblical and life sequences of suffering, endurance, character, hope, hope not disappointing us, and joy. It seeks to develop some guidelines for how all persons should deal with the sufferings and the tough times of life, along with the healings and the joyful times. Dr. Beatty’s traumatic brain injury of many years ago is a significant part of the book, but the main focus of this book is upon how anyone’s Christian faith is able to lead him or her to experience and to deal victoriously with all of the challenges and opportunities of life. God and any person’s Christian faith become critically important throughout life, and especially when terrible injuries or illnesses strike.
