Later that night after keeping her mom company, Sara lay on her bed thinking. Her dad was working late again, which was unusual since they had moved to Simpleton. Her suspicions were up that something bad had happened; maybe a car accident or possibly worse. Being the daughter of a police officer, especially the chief of police, she grew up with a inherited tendency for questioning. Simpleton was a safe town, nothing out of the ordinary happened here, which is why her dad had taken the job and chose to move his family here. Sara didn’t think where she had grown up was all that dangerous, but her dad was comforted by the fact that this was a town where everyone knew everyone and crime was minimal. There was a knock on Sara’s bedroom door. “Sara honey,” Mom said. “Come in, Mom. Is everything all right? Is Dad OK?” “He is fine. He called a little while ago to say he would be late. Sara, did you know a girl from school named Kim Randall?” “No. Why?” “Well, apparently she has gone missing. Your dad is out with a search party looking for her now.” “Missing? Like she ran away?” “He didn’t say, but I am sure he doesn’t know much yet. If you hear anything at school, please be sure to let your father know.”
