About the Book

The purpose of "Voices from a Wilderness Expedition" is to reawaken the now silent voices of the brave men who made the historic 1775 march through the Maine wilderness with Benedict Arnold to attack Quebec and conquer Canada. This book is not a chronological history of the expedition, but rather offers details and new information about the lives of the men who participated and, equally important, the journals that chronicaled the hardships of the march. It contains significant new information on both the men and the journals that has never been published. The book features: * First ever bibliography of all prntings of thirty journals written by participants * Three newly discovered journals found in the University of Glasgow Library * Two never before published journals written by privates on the expedition * New biographical information on seven officers * Examination of the career of Col. Roger Enos whose 3 companies left early to return to Cambridge * Identification of Capt Scott, a previously unknown company commander * Transcription of 2nd Isaac Senter journal * Comprehensive roster of names of 1124 officers and men who were on the expedition

About the Author

Stephen Darley has a law degree from George Washington University and owned his own real estate development and construction firm since 1972 until he retired in 2009. Mr. Darley has a thirty-year interest in Benedict Arnold and the history of the Revolutionary War. He has an extensive collection of Arnold books, prints ephemera and other items, including Arnold rarities, and has an extensive library of Revolutionary War books. He is a collector of Kenneth Roberts' first editions as well os first editions by Rafael Sabatini. He is an avid reader of books regarding the American Revolutionary War. Mr. Darley has written two articles on Benedict Arnold that were published in Early America Review. THe first appeared in the Winter/Spring 2001 issue, entitled "Benedict Arnold Portraits," and the second appeared in Winter/Spring of 2006 entitled "How Benedict Arnold Got the Name of Dark Eagle." He also wrote an article on the Revolutionary War Battle of Ridgefield for the magazine Cry Havoc and an article on the Battle of Osbornes in 1781, entitled "Making Havoc of the Shipping in the Interior Waterways: The Battle of Osbornes on the James River." . Mr. Darley co-wrote a bio-bibliography of author Rafael Sabatini which was published in 2010 by Oak Knoll Press, entitle The Last of the Great Swashbucklers: A Bio-bibliography of Rafael Sabatini." He has written three article for Firsts Magazine on authors Rafael Sabatini in 2001, Leslie Turner White in 2004 and Dale L. Morgan in 2008. Mr. Darley is a member of the New Haven Museum and Historical Society as well as the New England Historical and Genealogical Society. Mr. Darley lives in North Haven, Connecticut with his wife Peggy.
