Mrs. Grimmings said softly to curious Clark
Something that I did not quite understand
And then she gently led Joshua out of the class
By calmly taking his hand
Now to my left sat David Best
And he is very smart, says Mrs. Grimmings
I heard him say to Tanya Lee
“looks like he was tree trimming”

About the Book
Joshua is joining Mrs. Grimmings class today, but the new classmates and the noise are overwhelming for him prompting him to start “stimming”. His new classmates aren’t quite sure why he is rocking back and forth and covering his ears…and what was it exactly that Mrs. Grimmings was saying? Come and join Joshua and his friends on another learning adventure about autism, and maybe learn something about yourself in the process.
About the Author
Jacqueline Williams-Hines is the mother of a son with autism, an autism awareness advocate as well as the author of the No Small Victories children’s book series, through which she hopes to demystify autism for Joshua’s neurotypical peers. It is her belief that until all children can understand what they see when they see characteristics of autism in children like Joshua social and educational inclusion will remain a challenge for all concerned
