Grandpaarenting is a full time, difficult endeavor filled with love, ambivalence, wondering, questioning, pleasure, excitement, and appreciation.
It is different because grandparents are different--older, wiser, and less energetic. The times are different and children are definitely different--so much younger than grandma and grandpa, "wiser" (when compared to their parents at the same age), more articulate and certainly "all-knowing."
Grandparenting is difficult because of the energy consumption, the time, the work and the involvement of caring for and raising grandchildren today. The grandparenting job is filled with ambivalence because of the feelings of doubt about raising grandchildren. But, after considerable self-talk and unconditional acceptance that you and they are a family, you begin detailing the map for the active journey.

About the Book
The book is a short manual that discusses the challenges and rewards of raising grandchildren. It describes the multitude of questions, doubts, desires, sometimes fears of the ability to provide proper care and nurturing.
It also discusses the need to be directly involved in grandchildren's daily life activities as well as the need to work closely with medical professionals and teachers and to be able to make informed decisions about health and educational issues at school and at home. The book reminds grandparents of need to keep themselves healthy by seeking periodic medical visits, getting needed rest and taking some time for themselves. Part of the journey is continued parenting.
About the Author
The author is a retired educator--teacher, counselor and school administrator. The has been a grandparent caregiver for six years with legal guardianship for the past three years. She cares for two grandchildren (a boy and a girl) ages eight and nine. She is focused on demonstrating unconditional love, instilling a caring attitude and self-respect. The author takes seriously her responsibility to develop healthy mental, physical, educational, emotional and spiritual growth and development in children who can think and make decisions for themselves.
