About the Book

The play THOREAU is based on the life, works and words of Henry David Thoreau.  The play encompasses one summer in Henry David Thoreau's life including his marriage proposal to Ellen Sewall, his arrest and jailing for failing to pay his taxes and his climb to the summit of Mount Katahdin in Maine.  Thoreau hires a Penobscot Indian, Joe Polis, who guides him to the base of Mount Katahdin.

About the Author

He has lived overseas in Thailand, Malaysia and Iran.  Other countries he has briefly visited are the Philippines, Laos, South Korea, Japan, and India. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War, which the Vietnamese call the American War and he also served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Thailand.  His experience is in both the public and private sectors.  He has written many columns and articles on government, current events, foreign and domestic policies.  He was imbued with a strong interest in these things by his father, an Armenian immigrant to America who always carried a pocket edition of the U.S. Constitution.  As a boy his father survived the genocide of Armenians in Turkey and made his way to a land full of opportunity and freedom.
