Hello, my name is Louie. I''m a cat. I''ve been around for a long time.
And.. I have heard some pretty good stories in my lifetime. I''m going to tell you about one right now.
Once upon a time there was a Doctor who went to visit lots of Grandmas and Grandpas who have to
live in the
Dr. Jo Jo noticed how lonely the Elders were when no one came to visit them. They would just sit
in their chair or lie in bed and cry...or look out into empty space.
Some just stayed in bed all day and didn''t want to get up, or they were not able to get out of bed at all.
Sometimes, Dr. Jo Jo would take her little doggies to visit, Sunshine and little Mataya.
Oh, how the Elders loved them!
Many of the Elders are really sick; others cannot see, walk or even hear anymore.
They can''t take care of themselves, so they have no choice but to live there at the different homes.
Many of the Elders had no family or friends who come to visit with them. They were very sad and
felt that their life was over. All they had were their memories.
Dr. Jo Jo would come to see them with her Bag of Tricks!
One day, Dr. Jo Jo started what is called The Rainbow Connection. It''s all done right on the computer.
Dr. Jo Jo posts some of the Elders'' names on the Rainbow Connection Message Board, and a little about
who they are. Anyone who has a computer can go there.
Many kind and caring people have joined The Rainbow Connection over they years, since 1987.
The Message Board started in 1998, and many who write through their computers live far away. They cannot
go to visit, but they can write letters. Some live in places like
They send their letters to Dr. Jo Jo and she gives or reads them to the Elders. Then she helps them write letters
back to us. If our Rainbow Friends do not have computers, that''s okay because Dr. Jo Jo still sees that they get the letters.
Formats Book Details This is a collection of stories, as shared by our Elders. Some are highly imaginative, some are funny! Some are based on true experiences! All are the Elders'''' Legacy for our Children. There are some drawings to be colored, in the first story. The rest are beautifully illustrated by our artist, Natalie Van Kirk! Enjoy these stories, then have your child ask the Eldest in your family, to share a story from their youth! As a child I enjoyed reading, Little Golden Books. Even at the age of one year, I was delighted with the tiny illustrations. This, then, is an expansion of those type of stories. They have emerged from our program, The Rainbow Connection! by Jo Jo Gompers Mema (aka Dr. Jo Jo and Gaye JoJo Gompers) is a Psychologist and Grandmother. She is the founder of The HOME Foundation, and a Master Story-Teller. Humanly Oriented Meetings for Enrichment, is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing Elders together with Younger People, so all generations can be enrichened. Her creative programs have included: The Rainbow Connection (a letter writing project that brings out the best of stories) (an experiential day camp program for all generations) The (a program for life-long learners) Little Gold in the Rainbow Stories is a project devoted to bringing the Elders’ stories to a wider audience of youngsters. Dr. Jo Jo has compiled some of the best stories as told by the Elders. She lives in ToTo- a healing poodle, two cats, 8 parakeets, and one fish. She has four grown children: Teri Jo, Cori Ann, Robby, and Dani Lynn. There are three grandchildren: Tiffany Ann, Jordan Crystal Rose, and Ryley Jacob- thanks to Brian, Russell, and Eddie.
