RETRIBUTION
lost in thought
stomach's in a knot
lung's out of air
love not returned is a nightmare
I guess what goes around
comes around
justice is poetic
my straits are pathetic
the power of a moment could change it all
but I am left only with my back against the wall
in the lion's den
left only with my pen
agonizing to say the least
nothing sooths the savage beast
I suppose it is what I deserve
judgment has been served
it is only fair
my sentence is life or the chair
either way
I stay
behind these bars
with self-inflicted scars
screaming to get out
but even if I shout
I'm in a padded cell
so no one can tell
I am even here
so me and my fear
will be bunk mates
until the warden states
that I am free
but will that ever be
you may not have a doubt
but to me the jury is still out

About the Book
This
collection of poems reveals the inner struggle to survive during difficult
times. These poems are saturated with symbolism and hidden meanings. They are
thought provoking because one needs to read between the lines. Therefore, they
encourage the reader to wonder and ask, yet they are written so the reader does
not really know if the author is using hyperbole or Fact. These poems are not
for the faint-hearted but for those who love to think deeply about the struggle
called life.
About the Author
Stan Schmidt was born and raised in North Dakota. He graduated High School in 1980. He spent time in the military as well as overseas. He has a Bachelors degree in Theology. He has resided in Minneapolis for the past Fifteen years. He is an avid reader and has written over six hundred poems. This is his first publication of poems in book Form.
