About the Book

"All that we are arises with our thoughts.

With our thoughts we make the world."

Buddah

Certainty for Uncertainty is a powerful collection of undisputed facts that have the capacity to enhance our spiritual thoughts and expand our awareness of the reality of God’s existence and the true presence of the human Soul. Certainty from Uncertainty examines the words and thoughts of many of the world’s greatest philosophers, scientists, intellectuals, and metaphysicians and develops through their thoughts a compelling argument for the existence of God, the Soul, and the evolution of the human Soul to Omega Consciousness (a state of human consciousness in which the consciousness of God and humankind are identical).

Dr. Prato takes the reader for a hand-in-hand walk with the world’s greatest thinkers and intellectuals. Without a preaching–to–the choir tone, he appeals to skeptics and believers alike, presenting compelling evidence of God’s existence from many of the brightest minds in our history outside the religious realm. What were the spiritual thoughts of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; of renowned scientists such as Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Henry Margenau, and many others nearly all Nobel Prize winners? What thoughts of God did Baruch Spinoza, Wilhelm Liebniz, Larry Dossey and David Bohm have in common? Does the history of the thoughts of these profound thinkers allow us to understand how they came to a near-identical belief in the Universal Presence? How do their thoughts coincide with the thoughts of the Prophet David when he wrote his timeless 23rd Psalm? Certainty From Uncertainty raises the veil on these magnificent intuitive connections. Of Certainty From Uncertainty Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Healing Words and Recovering the Soul says:

The great task of a lifetime is to find our way to the Absolute or God, however conceived. This "spiritual text" is a guide for our time, which many people who are engaged in spiritual work will find immensely helpful. Peter Prato shows us there is a final common pathway uniting science, spirituality and healing. His message is about unity, which our age desperately needs to recover.

Certainty From Uncertainty leads us through these esoteric thoughts, filled with mystery and wonder, into the realm of the miracle and the near-death experience, then to Omega Consciousness--a state of being where humans become fully integrated with the consciousness of God.

SECTION ONE

CERTAINTY FROM UNCERTAINTY

(A Text for Spiritual Enhancement)

INTRODUCTION

In generation after generation since humans became conscious, the question, "does God really exist?" has been asked repeatedly. A second question that almost always follows is, "If there is a God what does His existence mean to me?" Does this Absolute Power, Who logically must be the Source of all things in the universe--really know of my existence? Or as it sometimes seems, am I just an infinitesimal dot on a tiny planet in a very remote galaxy at the edge of a huge, expanding universe? Is this Creative Spirit aware of me--somehow involved in my destiny--or is the entire concept just a function of my thoughts and emotions; a creation of my human brain? Does this all go away when I die? Was there a "Grand Creator?" Is our final destiny a part of His universal plan? Is there reality in the thought that there is an ineffable "Something," a Creator, a God that exists independent of human thought? What is the essence of this "something" that our ancestors "saw" in the mysteries of natural things? That they sensed in the harmony of the stars that light the heavens, the sun that lights the earth; in the wonder of seasons changing; in the inexplicable movement of the wind, and in nature's vital spontaneity?

Was there truly "a power" behind all this or was it just a figment of their mind; a mental concept that they desperately needed "to get through life?" What constitutes a belief in God today? Do our thoughts about a Creator produce a "spiritual tranquilizer," somewhat akin to what Lenin meant when he said, "Religion is the opiate of the masses?" These are questions that, during a mid-life crisis, filled my thoughts with doubt and depression. Are there others in the world today who are troubled by similar thoughts?

This book contains the questions I asked and the path I followed that finally put my doubts to rest. It brings to your attention some of the logic and sources of inspiration I used to quell my uneasiness and raise the level of my spiritual understanding.

Even today, in our sophisticated, technology driven society, when we look at the night sky or at enhanced images of far distant galaxies and stars, aren’t we filled with feelings of awe and wonder at the overwhelming harmony, beauty and dynamism that exists in the universe? When the beauty of the earth surrounds us; when we look out over a peaceful forest, gaze at the magnificence of the ocean, explore a peaceful forest or view a panorama of majestic mountains, do we not feel a sense of the Sacred--of the Cosmic--of the Absolute? If your answer to these questions is "yes, I do," you have already experienced the Sacred--that mystical feeling that "something" beyond our daily experiences exists--the realization that there is a unity out there--an inexplicable Oneness that seems to encompass all beings and all things. Many people are uncertain about a concept like this but certainty can arise from uncertainty. In this context, the term uncertainty will be used to denote "something" akin to the terms used by the Nobel Prize winning Physicist Werner Heisenberg in his now internationally famous Uncertainty Principle; e.g., the immeasurable, incalculable, inscrutable, the infinite; a nature that is far greater than our own; one that cannot be fully measured by science or completely understood. It will also include such words as mysterious, wonderful, ubiquitous, esoteric; words that reflect the transcendent and sublime. Through the use of these terms, that by their very nature are uncertain, we will demonstrate that a Creator, an Absolute "Something," a Power or Force, or more simply God does indeed exist, and that we can come to know and understand this power with great certainty.

A second aspect of what follows will demonstrate this "process of coming to certainty" is evolutionary; that our understanding of the presence of a Creator can be further expanded and enhanced by recognizing we are in the early stages of a process of spiritual evolution that will ultimately result in the expansion of our spiritual consciousness until we become God-like--filled with the consciousness of the Absolute--equal in every aspect to the consciousness of God. This transformation is what the famous spiritual philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin called the Omega Point.
