The Earth, filled with the sickness of hate and violence, blew up in the year 2039, leaving thousands of residents already on the Moon, and Mars, and satellite islands circling the Earth as "orphans of the storm."
Youthful travelers of different races and religious cultures on a marvelous space ship called The Moon Glow, find a refreshing fellowship in which they question whether organized religion might have been able to stem Earth’s demise. What if they had all been more faithful to their teachings?
Romance, adventure, and travel in space and on the Moon, along with a lot of soul-searching, now combine with a strange visitor, who travels instantaneously by Thought Transference, and is part of a Spirit People culture in a far universe. He too, has found the message of the Creator, and offers them the assurance that they are not alone!
Christian, Jew, and Moslem confront the inconsistencies of the various Faith groups, and try also to deal with racial prejudice. They are forced to admit that some of this may have been a part of the incendiary fuse that set off the nuclear destruction of nearly eleven billion people.
Francis Guither has been a writer throughout his life, sharing devotional thoughts not only with his congregation in church newsletters, but also having been published in local newspapers over a period of ten years. This, along with nearly sixty years of preaching, has brought him to a variety of audiences both on radio and T.V.
In retirement, he has moved to science fiction novels, and has been fascinated by the human potential, when we are truly under obedience to our Maker. A verse from St. John 14:12 gives us the words of Jesus shortly before his death: "In truth, I tell you, he who has faith in me will do what I am doing; and he will do greater things still because I am going to the Father". (NEB) In the margin, Francis wrote, "WOW"! And he asks himself the question, "What are the wonderful things we may really be able to do, as we continually seek to find the truths of God’s amazing universe?"
He has written a variety of materials: a layman’s theology, THE GOD CONNECTION, a devotional book, THE QUINTUS PRINCIPLE...or Spiritual Biscuits for Coffee Break Moments, another devotional, PEBBLES ON THE PATHWAY, and two science fiction novels, MOONGLOW AND THE SPIRIT PEOPLE, and THE PHOBOS PHOBIA.
APOCALYPSE!
From a distance, you could see planet earth far off in the solar skies. It was there, but there was little doubt that it had changed. As Bill Foster had left the Earth years earlier, the view back had been breath-taking...a radiant blue was the overwhelming color. It had sparkled in the skies like a marvelous gem, a beautiful round ball in God's game of "playing catch." It was Bill’s original home and he had loved it, with all of its problems and with all of its teeming millions.
But now, he was looking for that radiant blue home again, and it just wasn't the same! Earth's wars had been severe during the last several decades. The United Nations had been tested again and again, and world opinion and budgetary cutbacks had given it little opportunity to do its job. And now, things had gotten out of hand. One of the radical revolutionaries had gone "over the edge!" And hatred, violence, and insanity had taken control. And millions...yes, billions of people had now paid the awful price!
Something was visibly changed, as the space vehicle, the "Moon Glow" approached from afar. A cloud cover encircled the earth. It was a dark seething mass of clouds...a break here and there, with tiny surface features showing through. There were no spots of sunshine; there were no sparkling waters; no sign of great continents and lovely harbors...only twisting, angry, seething clouds hiding the rusting, desolate remnants of whatever might have been there before. You couldn't see beneath the clouds, but knowing what had happened, you could sense the portent of a kind of hell, invisible to the naked eye. It was like a black death that greeted anyone foolish enough to approach.
They were called "Viewing windows", but of course were not windows at all, but T.V. viewing panels (great pictures from wall to wall) in the space vehicle. Bill, Noah, and the other passengers were often seen there, as the Moon Glow came nearer to their destination. Through the loud speakers, the captain reminded them of the news that had horrified the universe some time earlier. It was now seemingly confirmed that the people of earth, with the exception of the few who had left earlier for space travel on the moon or on Mars, now no longer existed.
The passenger list included many persons who had left earth months before, to take this marvelous Travel Tour...first going to the moon, then taking flight on the Moon Glow to Mars, and so were on their return trip. Home at last!...But now there was no home to which they might return!
The Apocalypse had been fulfilled! The end of the world had really taken place! And those viewing the scene from a distance, were still not ready to accept what had happened.
