About the Book

For years, many of God’s people have been held captive by Satan because of sin (Self Indulging Needs) harboring in their hearts and minds. Unbound is a short novella that utilizes realistic situations with hopes of encouraging sinners to gain freedom from bondage by turning to God. It demonstrates how God searches the heart and reveals the things that have a person bound.

Unbound gives examples of how one has to take the authority given to them by God, shows how to activate their faith, and how to surrender and allow God’s power to transform them into a new creature.

Unbound tells a story of a ghetto, unsaved church secretary that falls deeply in love with her successful Pastor, Joseph L. Jenkins. After years of the two being in a relationship and hopes of one day getting married, Shanta and Pastor Jenkins’ puppy love comes to a tragic end. The tragedy of Mrs. Jenkins finding out about her husband’s infidelity. Despite the fact of the affair being known to the public, Shanta refused to give up on her first true love. Besides, what would you do if the man you believe is your husband, already had a wife?

As soon as Shanta sat down and kicked her feet up, she heard a knock on the door. She figured it had to be cousin Angie.

“Come on in, Angie,” Shanta said. “Girl, what took you so long to get here? Momma was in here preaching to me again.”

“I was just enjoying my stroll in that nice weather outside. Anyway, girl, I can’t believe Aunt Eiola busted you and Pastor out like that. Then, you admitted to it in front of everybody. Shanta, you are crazy. Sometimes I wonder if you are smoking something. You are supposed to confess to God, not to the entire congregation. You are too funny to me. I can’t stop laughing at you. Now you’re looking like the church whore,” Angela said.

“I know. But guess what? I am going to stop hooking because I only want to be with Joe. Girl, that’s my baby. I’m going to tell Joe tonight when we get to work. You need to stop too. I know you are not sleeping with anybody, but you’re having conversations with them. You know adultery starts in the heart. You have a good husband that loves God and got a good job too. You should really feel bad. I know that I always make jokes, but you really do have a good marriage. I want a marriage just like yours when I grow up. Once Joe leaves Vivica, I’m going to have that,” Shanta said with much confidence.

“I do, girl. I feel like the scum of the earth. That’s why I am not even going tonight. I am going to talk to Blair and tell him that I have been talking to other men for the past few weeks. It was just excitement for the moment. I just finished a call on the way here. Blair didn’t do anything to deserve this. He just works so hard at that law firm and church; and he has given me everything I needed. I guess I just had too much idle time. You know what the old folks say about an idle mind - it’s the devil’s workshop. So you say you’re going to stop sleeping around, but what about sleeping with Pastor? That’s what you need to stop doing.”

“Angela, I do not need you judging me too, okay. Yeah, I’m going to stop sleeping around. You know the only reason I am doing what I’m doing is because I was looking for a father figure. Now I have found that and everything else I need in Joe. I sure thank God for that. My momma really messed me up not knowing who my father is.  I mean, it’s not her fault that she was raped. At times I feel like I just have to have me a man. But all of that is over now because God has blessed me with my man. I can’t wait for my wedding day. Girl, you know you are my matron of honor. I am so excited.”

“Well, Shanta, I hate you are all excited for nothing. You know Pastor is not going to leave his wife. He would be a fool because he has too much to lose. That’s really out of the question. I can’t believe that you seriously think he is. Do we need to watch Waiting to Exhale again?” Angela laughed. “He’s just telling you that so he can keep getting your goods. And besides, Trevar has been pursuing a relationship with you for the past year. He loves God, and he’s stable too. So what’s up with that?”

“Girl, Trevar is so not cute, he can hardly talk, and I have to think about my children. I don’t want no gremlins running around here sounding like they’re speaking in tongues.”
