About the Book

This book explores a practical approach to discovering, researching and implementing a rapid microbiology technology in the health care industry.

About the Author

Rich Boehler studied the “ATP Bioluminescence Methodology” while attending graduate school at Long Island University.  His bioluminescence master’s thesis was presented in May 2002. Rich also lead a method development team at a fortune 500 pharmaceutical company to implement the rapid bioluminescence technology.  The RMM (Rapid Microbiology Method) was used as an alternative method to the traditional microbiology “gold standard”.  Rich obtained a bachelor of science in biology from Stony Brook University (1999) and initiated doctoral studies at Montclair State University (2004). In addition, (a) Rich Boehler has 10 years industrial microbiology experience in quality control, method development & research;  (b) 12 years military experience (United States Naval Reserves); and (c) 1 year experience as a community college instructor in a biology department.

Rapid microbiology methodologies (RMM) are the wave of the future for pharmaceutical manufacturers.  RMM have roots in the food and dairy industry.  For many decades, rapid and reliable results for food and dairy products using bioluminescence were used to ensure that samples were not grossly or minutely contaminated with bacteria, yeast or mold.  The cosmetic industry realized the advantages of implementing ATP bioluminescence technologies in the early 1990s.

Rapid microbiology methodologies offer many advantages to production leadership, laboratory leadership, marketing leadership and aligns with company initiatives to improve effectiveness and efficiency for quality.
