Dr. Ronald G. Sherman
In our country youth is emphasized. The elderly are not considered assets but expenditures. In other countries the elderly are revered, honored and respected. A commentary about a country is how they take care of the needy, the helpless and the elderly. The senior citizens built this country into one very powerful nation. Their generation deserves the respect and utmost honor the next generation could bestow. This book will explore the idea that our seniors are assets to be respected and honored. We are all born to get older and one's perception of the elderly will help you grow old with honor and respect. Read the book and open your mind to the possibilities given, and then observe what kind of conclusions you come too
Dr Ronald G Sherman has been in the Medical Profession for over 33 years as both a practicing Physical Therapist and Chiropractor. He has had the privilege of working with the elderly achieve great results. These individuals are ordinary people who have shared their experiences, and their thoughts on getting older. Their wisdom has inspired Dr Sherman to write this book in hopes of giving the reader a perspective on the aging population that will lead to a feeling of deep respect and honor for our elderly.
Who was that person who
coined the phrase “The Golden Years,” because I would like to have a discussion
with him/her about that definition and perception of aging?
I have been in the
medical profession for over 33 years, previously as a Chiropractor and
currently as a Physical Therapist. For most of my career I have been working in
the geriatric field. Unfortunately the patients I see are not in the best of
health. My perspective on the golden years is that they are not so Golden.
In speaking with
thousands of patients through the years I have listened to them and observed
that these individuals were not experiencing the “Golden years.” Let us take the adventure of aging and look at
the senior years from both a positive and negative perception. Listen to our seniors and find out what is
golden if at all about aging.
My patients’ responses
“What is so great about the golden years?” are found below.
What is so Golden
about aging? The answer is “NOTHING is
golden about it.” I have engaged my patients in conversation to learn about
them as unique individuals, not just as patients with ailments. I have listened to their viewpoints and came
to my own conclusions. I am currently
considered an early senior citizen and with a membership to AARP. As of the writing of this book, I am 57 years
old with a perspective not too far behind my patients.
This book is a follow
up to my first book “Faith, Confidence and Belief.” I hope the reader receives a
positive viewpoint on the aging process. As I have mentioned many times to my patients
and in my book, words are very powerful. Perception is reality. My desire in
writing these books is the adage that words are food for thought. Your
brain works like a computer observing what goes in and reflecting what comes
out. If you put junk in then junk will come out.
The words (food for
thought) in this book are my opinions and perceptions. I with a desire to look at oneself as they age and
appreciate the process with a hardy sense of humor and deep gratitude to the
almighty for giving them the gift of life. With this gift given to us, we have
the free will to do as we choose and to live life (good or bad, right or wrong).
Enjoy the experience and never stop
appreciating the gift given to us. The adventure is ours to create. Let the adventure begin and let us journey
into the Golden years with an open mind to various opinions, perceptions from
our seniors, and ourselves.
