Born in North Carolina, my family moved to New York in 1946 and lived on Fort Totten Army Base. I attended and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, then went on to Mills College of Education, Hofstra University, and C.W. Post. I received my doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I began working as a teacher of special education students; then became an administrator of special education in the Roosevelt School District, Roosevelt, NY. Presently, I am an adjunct professor at three local universities: Hofstra University, Adelphi University, and St. Johns University.
