The Dutch/Indiana artist Peter Bruning is a native of Amsterdam, Holland. After graduating from high school in the middle of World War II, he chose a teaching career in languages, and completed, in 1949, a degree in Germanic studies, art history and sociology. Not long after, he came to the United States, and taught German and Dutch at UC Berkeley. Those were the years that his art career started in earnest, inspired by the beauty of the California Hills and the national parks. Born with an insatiable interest in people and places, Peter travels whenever and wherever he can. As an artist, the records he keeps of his travels are visual ones. Camera and sketchbook hold a wealth of impressions for him until he can, back in his Indiana studio, select a few to develop into masterful pieces of art, a generous selection of which can be enjoyed in
