About the Book

"The Adventures Of Songha" is the story of a rare exotic cat, as seen through the eyes of Songha, a beautiful Savannah cat. Songha is half African Serval wildcat and half domestic cat, and this unusual combination sets her apart from most other cats. She has a domestic temperament, but her wildcat blood drives her to seek adventure by escaping from the safety of her wonderful home. Her restlessness takes her into exciting, and sometimes dangerous territory, as she follows her wild urges to run free.

Songha tells us about leaving her African Serval father, to come and live with her new family in Las Vegas, Nevada. She loves her new family, but when she is not allowed to go outside and run free, she begins searching for ways to escape. She doesn’t want to run away from her family. She just wants to run free for a little while, and then come back to her loving home.

From her daring first escape, through an upstairs window, to her confrontation with a notorious wild coyote, Songha gives us a "cat’s eye" view into the heart and soul of this exotic feline. She is wild and sweet, endearing and infuriating, all at the same time. And of course, she is always entertaining. As Songha pursues her adventures, she learns some valuable life lessons along the way, and also gains some much needed wisdom.

This is the story of Songha, the amazing Savannah cat.

About the Author

Linda Caterine is a wife and mother of four. She and her husband, Tony, reside in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. A few years ago, they became fascinated with the beautiful exotic Savannah cats, and Linda decided to try her hand at breeding these rare hybrid cats. This is how she came to acquire Songha, a Savannah female, and Simba, a Bengal male. During the next few years, as her relationship with these unusual cats deepened, Linda found that her experiences with Songha, and the many amusing, and sometimes frustrating incidents surrounding this amazing cat, would probably make for a very interesting story!

While her book is a children’s story, Linda hopes to bring some attention to the wonderful Savannah cats, a new and exciting breed currently in development.

Although Linda has always enjoyed writing, this is her first venture into publishing. She actually never intended to write a book. But her observations of the fascinating behavior of Songha, just evolved into the ideas for this work. It was truly a labor of love and Linda hopes that others will get to know and love these fabulous cats as much as she does.

             CHAPTER EIGHT:

     THE LEGEND OF 'EL DIABLO'

With a feeling of excitement, I ran out into the night.  I could hear the sounds of the night creatures.  The air was alive with the sounds and smells of the night. The moon was full and bright as I climbed to the top of a large house.  I stood silently for a long time:  looking, listening, totally alert.  Then I heard the howling again.  This time it was very close.  I jumped down to a wall, and then I caught his scent.  He was right below me, sneaking through the bushes, just a few feet from Tina's hiding place!  I had to act quickly.  I jumped down from the wall and suddenly we were face to face.  His eyes were a startling yellow color, and the moonlight gave them an eerie sparkle.  He was compact and muscular from head to toe, obviously a skilled and powerful hunter.  His coat was red around the edges, which made him look like he was on fire.  He bared his teeth as he curled his lip back and snarled at me.  He kicked the dust with his back feet and drooled as he continued his frightful growling.  The coyote has many voices, and as he approached me, he began a high-pitched yipping and barking that sounded like evil laughter.  It made the hair on my back stand straight up.  "El Diablo:"  Yes, that was certainly the right name for him!  For a few seconds I was frozen in time, mesmerized by this fearsome creature.  El Diablo was much scarier than the dog that I had encountered.  This was nobody's pampered pooch.  This was a real, live, wild beast!  But I shook off my fear and collected my thoughts.  I would need to use all of my skills if I was going to outsmart El Diablo.

       THE LEGEND OF 'EL DIABLO'

                       THE POEM

Every time that I escaped

My family got  much wiser,

With hammers, nails, and wood and locks

Security got tighter,

But I searched and searched and found a way

And while everyone was sleeping,

I slipped out in the moonlight

Where the night things all were creeping,

And then I heard the howling

As it echoed through the plains,

It was the voice of a coyote

"El Diablo" was his name,

He is also called "The Trickster"

He is smart and he is mean,

He likes to dine on cats and dogs

But he'll eat most anything,

And I heard he was the one to blame

For many missing pets,

And I knew that it was up to me

To remove this evil threat!
