About the Book
Libby was an orphaned girl who loved the outdoors.  Since her mother and father disappeared in an airplane accident, she lived on her own in the Foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  She was sad that her parents had never been found even after many weeks of searching by many people.  Libby knew that she didn't want to live in a foster home or go to an orphanage so she began to travel to the various small towns around the area where she had been born and take shelter where she could..  Libby was taught by her father to be very resourceful as a small child, but she was eleven years old now and put all that her father had taught her to good use.  This is the story of her journey and new found friends.
About the Author
This book was written based on stories that were told to my grandchildren by me.  My youngest grandchild, Whitney, who was eleven years old at the time, while being told this story named all the animals in the book.  This book is dedicated to her.  She is now serving in the United States Navy.  I wrote the book in hopes that it would bring as much pleasure to other children as it did my grandchildren.

Libby was about to do something she had never done before and that was to begin a journey to the big city in hopes of finding a family who would adopt her as their very own little girl.  Before starting her journey Libby went to a little grocery store in the small town where she had been staying.  She went into the store and bought some fruit, vegetables, bread and peanut butter and jelly.  She filled her backpack as full as she could get it in preparation for her trip.

The very next morning she was up at daybreak and began her journey.  As she traveled down the road she met a small dog.  The little dog began to follow along with Libby.  As the little dog followed, Libby wondered if he was lost or abandoned.  As they traveled she knew that he would get hungry and she knew he would not like fruits, veggies or bread so she planned to stop at the next little town they came to and find a meat market.  The first town they came to they stopped at a small service station and asked the attendant if there was a meat market nearby.  The young man directed Libby and her little friend to the local grocery store.  Libby went to the meat counter and asked the butcher if he had any bones and scraps of meat for her little dog.  The butcher said yes he did and wrapped up some very nice bones and meat scraps and gave them to Libby.  Libby wanted to pay the kind butcher for them, but he said no that she could have them.  He then asked Libby “what is your little dogs name?” Libby had to think quickly then said his name is Bill.  Libby thanked the nice man and went outside where she gave Bill some bones.   When he was finished eating they set out on their journey and Libby was very happy to have Bill with her.
