About the Book

Do you need help finding just the right words for your story or report?  Well, Doris TheSaurus knows exactly what to do!  Join Sara on  a magical quest to discover this friendly dinosaur's secret.

Parents and Educators:  As an added bonus, there is a mini-thesaurus at the end of each book, as well as a few workbook pages for students to begin a list of their own favorite words.

Educational standards, as well as formal, performance-based assessments, are now in place nationwide in the language arts curriculum for writing.  As early as elementary school, children are expected to use verbal and written language to communicate effectively with different audiences and for a variety of purposes, which, in part, include enjoyment, persuasion, exchange of information, and learning. A thesaurus is a vital resource that can help students meet these expectations. Writers are able to find higher-level vocabulary that can give their writing deeper meaning and specificity. In a fun and easy-to-follow way, Doris TheSaurus introduces this resource to elementary- and middle-school students.  Even adults have admitted to learning a thing or two from this book!

About the Author

Maria L. Corkern is an elementary school teacher in Alpharetta, Georgia. With the release of Doris TheSaurus, she is now a children's book author, too.  Reading to her children and students over the years instilled in her a love of children's literature.

Formerly Maria L. Ross, she was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington and has family ties to South Dakota, as well.  She earned a BA from Western Washington University and an M.Ed from University of Alabama, Birmingham.  Formally trained in classical, vocal performance, Ms. Corkern changed careers to public relations, and later, education.  She became an author after discovering the need for children's literature that could enhance certain educational curricula.

... "I'm Doris TheSaurus," the lady responded.
And then that new book appeared.

"Have you ever looked in these pages before?
You'll find words with similar meanings.
They're also known as synonyms.
They help you with writing and reading." ...

Flipping the pages, Sara found words
She sometimes used in her writing.
Having this resource to give her ideas,
Her assignments seem much more exciting...

Happy:  Delighted; Telling:  Recited
Sara grinned up at her friend.
Hungry:  Famished; Gone:  Vanished
She wanted to read to the end.  ...
