AEROBIC RAZZMATAZZ 12 WORKOUTS BY 12 MINUTES is suitable for everyone young or old, men, women, or children anyone interested in staying fit while having fun. It was chosen by "Dance Spirit Magazine" (April 2002) as one of 20 picks of "exciting and illuminating dance finds". "Foreword's" review (3/03) said the book "presents both a refreshing as well as a novel approach to aerobic exercises"...and is also "meant to revitalize the whole person, both mentally and physically".
The book consists of 12 chapters; each chapter is to be done in 12 minutes of practice time once you are familiar with the contents: warmups, aerobic razzmatazz routine and cooldowns. This is a workout that can fit into anyone's schedule quite easily. Shorter sessions can be had by splitting the workout into 3 five-minute sessions to be done at various times in the day. For longer workouts, simply do the warmups, the razzmatazz routine, 15 minutes of running or quick walking followed by cooldown, or do 2 or 3 of the chapters consecutively: all their warmups, the razzmatazz routines, then all the cooldowns.
All areas of the body are involved in the warmups and cooldowns: abdomen, quadriceps, hamstrings, arms, feet, head, and even the eyes. There are movements for stretching, strengthening, and cardiovascular fitness. They are clearly explained. Hints on fitness, numerous photographs and a glossary enhance the book. The aerobic razzmatazz routines are varied and fun and are based on folk dance, jazz, improvisational movement, jogging, etc. and may be both walked through at first and then vigorously executed with jumps and larger movements. You'll have a great time doing them alone or with friends or family.
Helene Andreu is a teacher, dancer, and choreographer. She started dance late at 17 but made up for it by being involved in dance ever since. She received her training at numerous excellent schools in New York, including the prestigious School of American Ballet (the official school of the New York City Ballet). She holds an M.A. in Dance Education from Teachers' College, Columbia University, as well as several licenses in Dance for High School, Junior High School, Early Childhood and Community Centers from the New York City Board of Education.
She has performed and choreographed for musicals, operas and operettas in summer stock and Off-Broadway shows.
Her teaching experience covers all ages from 2-year-olds through senior citizens, in private studios, after-school and community centers, settlement houses, Y's, Adult Education Centers and colleges throughout the New York area. She's enjoyed teaching all forms of dance and movement: ballet, tap, jazz, modern, folk and ethnic, improvisational dance, jazzaerobics, aerobics, slimnastics and parent-child movement.
JAZZ DANCE, AN ADULT BEGINNER'S GUIDE, is the title of her first book, published by Prentice-Hall in 1983.
