About the Book

The Middle East has become a flash point for extremism and intrareligious violence, as well as a cultural debacle of women’s rights. From the current derelict state of women’s rights in the Arab world to the current sectarian divide in Iraq and the ongoing hatred between Shia and Sunni Muslims, this book demonstrates the genesis of the collapse of the original Islam of Mohammad and the core of the split of these two sects of Islam while also looking deep within one of the most powerful struggles for women’s rights—the struggle led by Fatima, the daughter of Mohammad, that took place in the early days of the religion

Shattered explores what took place during and after these events. It presents a unique history of the Muslim world, touching on the ramifications of Fatima’s stand for Women’s rights and the seeds of dissension planted at the death of Mohammad, while touching on all of the crucial events from past to present that have turned horribly violent as a result of simple misinterpretations of the Quran and traditions by extremist groups, such as those responsible for the horrible terrorist actions that took place on 9/11.

This book will provide an in-depth analysis of some crucial movements within Islam that have nurtured the hate drawn from hundreds of years of history as well as provide forward-looking analysis on the concepts of freedom in Islam, human rights, women’s rights, and modernist views, as well as reformist views and their place in Islam.

“The coup at Saquifa [the place of meeting after the prophet Muhammad's death] had created the first Khalif [successor], paving the way for huddled power-giving and nepotistic power-sharing schemes that led to dynasties and dictatorial rule ... The cruelty undertaken at Saquifa was only the beginning, and the end to that cruelty has yet to come, [as can be seen with the likes of] Muawiah, Saddam and the Taliban, and so on ... [Extremists] began to take off ... growing and becoming more violent over time, and glorifying more recently the practices of AI-Qaeda and other extremist terrorist organizations.”

In the hope of re-establishing the original Islam after the clandestine scheming undertaken at Saquifa, Young Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad, attempted to refurbish the revolutionary mandate designed to guarantee justice, economic prosperity, and equal rights in the Islamic world amidst fire, brimstone, and unshakable odds.

“An incredibly grief-stricken Fatima only a few days back was harassed, her home burned, and her children put through mental anguish ... A determined Fatima ... rose out of the smoldering fire, brushed off pain, and stood defiantly up to protect Islam from a formidable internal threat. As Fatima entered a packed Masjid-e-Nabavi, the Mosque built by Muhammad, people froze in awe ... Her words began to resonate in the Quranic language, and once again it appeared Muhammad was back ...

... This was the voice that has treaded the test of time in a stand for human and particularly women's rights, from after Muhammad's death to this very day. As vicious and heartless terrorism such as that seen on 9/11 flutter through the news, violations of women's rights in the Middle East run rampant, and dictatorships continue their march all in the false name of Islam, it is this voice that will stand as testament to where Islam really stood, and this book, its expose to the world.
