Dad was fed up listening to the twins arguing. He knew from the moment he picked them up from school that they were going to be difficult. They argued even more than usual about who would sit in the front of the car, so in the end he told them both to sit in the back and put up with it!

‘Why do you have to be such a freak anyway?’ asked Danny in a vicious tone.

‘I’m not a freak!’ Ryan yelled.

‘You are. Everyone knows you are. Dad, it’s not fair. I hate being in the same class as him’

‘I hate it too!’ said Ryan with a passion.

‘No wonder you’ve got no friends, freak’

‘Danny, that’s enough. Don’t speak to your brother like that’ said Dad with a warning tone in his voice.

‘But Dad, he was messing around in class today again. It’s so embarrassing. I hate being the freak’s twin’

Dad pulled over, switched off the engine and turned round to face them. He was a huge bear of a man with dark hair and a bristly beard, but, as Mum often said, he was really just a ‘gentle giant’ who rarely even raised his voice. On this occasion however spoke very sternly.

‘I’m telling you, Danny. That’s enough! Now I don’t want another word from either of you till we get home’

So they were both quiet for a while - which Ryan was glad of because, as you know, he loved silence. He settled down to look out the window.

‘Freak!’ hissed Danny under his breath.

Ryan just ignored him.

When at last the car pulled up outside the house, Dad turned round to them again.

‘Danny, you’ve had plenty of time to cool off now. Is there anything you’d like to say to your brother?’

What he hoping to hear, of course was an apology.

‘Just that I’m going to kill him’ replied Danny. And with that he jumped out of the car and raced to the house.
