Jaine M. Lopez
My P’Toow
A Magical Sleeping and Traveling Close Companion, A Pillow Tale
In My P’Toow: A Magical Sleeping and
Traveling Close Companion, A Pillow Tale, new children’s book, Jaine M. Lopez
combines an enjoyable story about a child’s favorite treasure with a lesson on
manners.
My P’Toow is a full-color children’s book
inspired by Lopez’s twin daughters, who grew up carrying a favorite pillow
everywhere they went. Her book tells the story of different children and their
“P’Toows” going to the park, taking trips in the car and napping together.
Lopez examines the relationship many children have with their pillows, a
relationship she directly observed raising her twin girls:
When I am not feeling well, my mom
lifts my head upright and puts lots of pillows behind my head. P’Toow is not
just a pillow, it is a magical, soft, and cuddly bubble where I can put my head
to relax and transfer my last thoughts as I close my eyes to rest. “Mom! Thank
you for placing my favorite P’Toow close to my head!”
Lopez intends for My
P’Toow to entertain children with its colorful pictures and singsong
style, but she also stresses an important message throughout the book: always
say “thank you.” On each page, the child thanks his or her mother for their
P’Toow. Lopez writes:
These two words [thank you] are
repeated on all ten pages to expose the children to manners in their early
stage of life. I wrote this book because I do believe that learning is a
life-long experience and a good start makes the quest for learning a natural part
of children’s life and a legacy to the next generation.
