About the Book

Have you ever dreamed of a weight loss program where you can eat as much as you want of all those things that you crave and still lose excess body fat?

This dream program is now yours.

This is an ad libitum program where you lose fat because of what you eat and not because of what you limit. You will discover through personal experience that there is no need to reduce calories or limit food groups to eliminate excess body fat.

You will also obtain targeted fat loss since more fat will be lost from the waistline than from other parts of the body. Even more important, you will learn to think, feel and act in a different way around food. No magical remedies are promised and no miracle pills are promoted. Only through a sensible program and disciplined attitude will you be able to permanently rid yourself of excess fat.

The book is divided into four parts.

The first part explains why traditional diets are useless for long term weight loss, and how they may even worsen the problem.

The second part presents a general outline of proven ways to permanently lose excess fat.

The third part introduces a program which will not only help you nourish your body and lose excess fat; it will also reshape you to express your maximum genetic potential.

The last part answers frequent questions made by my patients in relationship to this program.

The philosophy of this program is the following: It is not what you eat in excess but what you are lacking in your daily menu that ruins your perfect metabolic balance and favors accumulation of excess body fat.

Dr. Bolio has dedicated 25 years of his professional life to the study of obesity treatment. His two major contributions are:

  1. Targeted fat loss; i.e. preferential reduction of specific segments of the body.

He has worked on obesity with the Pan-American Health Organization / World Health Organization in Mexico. PROLOGUE

Whatever happened to the simple things of life?

It used to be that being chubby was healthy and that parents would do almost anything to make their babies gain weight.

Then suddenly excess body fat became one of America’s worst health problems.

Now being hungry is “in,” and eating is “out.”

In America, where there’s enough food for everyone, almost four out of ten adults are dieting, eating less than they should and/or less than they want to.

Many years ago, when parents were trying to make their children gain weight, being overweight was quite unusual. Now that everyone is trying to lose weight, the number of people with excess weight is on the rise. If current trends continue, by the year 2050 more than 90% of Americans will be overweight and/or obese.

Excess body fat has now become everyone’s problem.

And when we study why people gain weight, things get very, very complicated.

MYTHS

As you read this book, you will discover that most of what has been said about why you gain weight is more myth than fact.

First of all, there is no relationship between how much you eat and how much you weigh. Some eat great quantities, others eat normally, many are permanently on diet and yet excess body fat persists in all of them.

Also, it turns out that the metabolisms of overweight and thin are identical, as long as neither of them goes on a diet.

What about exercise? By exercising, you can lose up to ten pounds and reduce health damage caused by excess weight. But if you have more than ten pounds to lose, you’d better start looking for other options. Furthermore, the overweight are not lazy as everyone assumes, since when they walk, they use the same energy as thin people who
