About the Book
I couldn't understand why my nephew Freddy was so different from the rest of us.  His demeanor was annoying and irritating, even as a young boy.  His thoughts and actions were disturbing and painful, as he related to others.

He described his ideas about success without any regard for anyones feelings or concerns.  Who would have believed that he would have carried them out, as he grew older?  His anger and treatment of others was usually uncalled for, as he generally got what he wanted.  What was going to stop this wayward soul from destroying himself?  Could he find some peace and comfort before it was too late?

"He was determined to at least talk to her and find out why she left him.  The search led to a small trailer park in San Francisco.  He had heard that she was living with a boyfriend who was very attached to his lost love, but this didn't make any difference to him.  He was determined to see her!  He approached the small house trailer they were living in and knocked on the door.  He saw someone peaking out of a curtained window.  Their refusal to answer the door, infuriated Freddy even more.  He began to pound on the door and yelled out to his girlfriend that he only wanted to talk to her

Who knows what drove her to refuse his demands.  It could have been that she was aware of how Freddy would react to someone who turned away from him.  She obviously had witnessed his rage before when things didn't go his way.  The fear she must have had drove her to put fear into her boyfriend, who yelled out to Freddy from a closed window, to "go away".  He then threatened to shoot Freddy with his shotgun if he refused to leave.  Freddy didn't react to threats appropriately, even if threatened with his life.  His long criminal life style had made him fearless of any one's threats or disagreeable attitudes.  After all, he was accustomed to getting things his way all his life.  He didn't know how to accept "no" for an answer, especially from women in his life.  Freddy threw caution to the wind, as he usually did, and began to pound the door in.  He broke the door down.  As he began to enter, the boyfriend shot him in the goin area with a single shot from his rifle.

Freddy later commented that he felt a burning pain in the groin area and was shocked to realize that he had been shot at such close range with a shotgun.  He began to feel weak as he began to lose blood.  The force of the blast threw him on his back.  He lay there helplessly bleeding to death.  He heard the shooter say "help me drag him into the woods so they will find his body in the morning away from the trailer".  Freddy lay motionless as he felt someone dragging him for a long distance into a wooded area.  He was left there to die.  As he dropped in and out of consciousness, he heard a voice and then someone came to his rescue.  Although he was lying hidden in the bushes, a passerby found him and called an ambulance.  Freddy couldn't understand why he survived or how.  He was left for dead, but it seemed as though the Lord wanted to give him another chance.

Freddy survived, but he had to live the rest of his life in and out of hospitals for several years.  His lower intestines were destroyed and he had to have a colostomy bag.  He was crippled by incurable damage caused by the gun shot wound.  His hip was also shattered and he had to have several hip operations.

The long, bitter history of living a life of crime and anti-social behavior had caught up with Freddy.  He couldn't see the self-destructive nature of his life style until it was too late.  In an instant, his life became one of being a victim instead of a victimizer.  His only source of help was his mother, Lucille.  He had abused and used everyone else to the point that no one wanted anything to do with him."
