"Binti The Baboon" is a great book for children, containing three stories about the adventures of a young baboon who was orphaned after birth. "Binti The Baboon" series takes the reader on a sometimes mischevious adventure in the African bush, teaching to protect and enjoy the wildlife of Africa. The characters and events in the series are taken from real-life people and the experiences of the author's travels in Africa.
Deborah Lane grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina and now lives in East Tennessee. She first traveled to Africa in 2001 and little did she know that it would change her life forever. She describes the African bush as "A panoramic view of majestic mountains and endless savannah, dotted with graceful Baobab and flat-topped Acacia trees. To see the wild animals in their own habitat, roaming freely in a land of such beauty and pureness continues to awe me each and every time I see it." Deborah has developed a deep passion for the people of Africa as well, spending much time learning the different cultures throughout Tanzania, and Zambia. Deborah wants to give her readers a keen sense of awareness and the importance of the protection and conservation of the wildlife of Africa. Deborah's children's books are based on real events that she has seen and experienced in Africa.
It was a beautiful, sunny day in the African bush and excitement filled the air. All the birds were singing, the zebras and elephants were humming, the lions were roaring and the crocodiles and hippos were swimming with glee. This was a very special day for the Shamba baboon troop. Shatis, the leader of the troop and his wife Juni were going to be parents!
