GRIT

some days are a marathon to survive

having lost the passion to feel alive

being surrounded by only struggles and pain

less the sunshine with too much rain

where it seems prayers and hopes only discourage

and your favorite song feels like a dirge

so you hold your head in your hands

wondering if anybody else understands

hence, sadness becomes a circuitous journey

with a reality that makes thinking a gurney

and little pep talks are merely a nostrum

and nothing leaves you awe struck

wishing that lucid something would be

although clarity is nowhere to see

even God seems like just an intellectual concept

now this is where faith and living intersect

the crossroads of perseverance

a time that we dare not live by appearance

but dig deep down inside

no matter how much we have cried

putting into practice what we proclaim to believe

and unto our Lord we must cleave

trusting that the one set of footprints are not ours

when we are attempting to overcome the trying hours

as faith is the evidence of things unseen

centered in the Divine human being

the assurance of things hoped for

this dark day's alternative door
