Wes Spence began this journey almost 30 years ago when his employer gave him his first day planner. Over the years he kept improving, refining, and learning new and innovative ways to achieve more and more with day planners. Eventually, he found himself operating at a research level in the field of day planners and personal time management. The culmination of that journey is this book.
Wes Spence is an honor graduate of Lamar University and a graduate of the State University of New York. Among his other achievements, he is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). This is his second book to be published nationally.
There is a magic to freeing your mind
with a day planner:
Day planners were created from the merging of two fantastic creations that we take for granted: The written language and the calendar. When those two simple elements were combined, something beyond synergy- more resembling magic occurred.
The “magic” part is the overriding philosophy and main reason for using a day planner: Day planners will take the responsibility of keeping up with both the important and the trivial details of your life to free your mental resources for higher level priorities. If you will view your brain as having limited energy (or at least being able to concentrate on a limited number of items at any one time), it is only logical that if your mental resources are being used trying to remember to take the garbage out tomorrow morning (since you forgot it last week), you will not be able to fully focus on creative ways to accomplish your goals and other important things in your life. Forgetting is not only frustrating; it is unnecessary! Think of your day planner as a personal assistant. It takes care of keeping up with a thousand details so that your brain is free to help you accomplish your higher-level tasks. While it will not actually do the tasks for you, it will help make sure they get done. When you are freed from expending your mental resources on mundane details, you really will see your life improve and your stress decrease. Whether you are new to day planners or have years of experience, read on. There are many tips that will help you become a “power user” in this book!
